Kybella - better before or after surgery?

If you are having surgery I would just have liposuction of the area since you are going to be asleep.

Thank you for your question.  Kybella should be fine before or after the surgery, but my question for you is: Why aren't you having liposuction of the chin since you are having such an extensive surgical plan and going under anesthesia?. injectable treatment for the double chin. This is a good question to ask your surgeon. Kybella can be performed before or after a surgery, or even on the same day. If Kybella is placed in the neck it is unlikely that it will dissolve fat in the cheeks or tear troughs. Please consult with a doctor for specific recommendations. Good luck!

Hi!  I presume you're planing to have Kybella for double chin fat. If you have only a small amount of fat, Kybella may still be better than liposuction, and having it six weeks before surgery will not pose any problem with the planned surgeries. For a large double chin, liposuction instead of Kybella, done at the same time as the other surgeries will be a better option. Liposuction is the gold standard for fat removal and is a quick procedure that can be added to your other procedures.

To be honest, since you are already going to be under anesthesia for your other procedures, why not have the surgeon liposuction that area? As effective as Kybella is, liposuction is still the gold standard. Otherwise, I would probably advise you to have the Kybella at the same time as your surgery. Otherwise, the post injection swelling may interfere with your surgery. Hope this helps --

I do not think Kybella treatment to the submentum will interfere with the surgeries you have listed. You will have swelling after the Kybella treatment. I would still discuss your Kybella treatment plans with your surgeon. Liposuction is an alternative to Kybella that should also be considered. 

The surgical treatment sites are away from the area beneath the chin so this should not be an issue.  You will have swelling after Kybella though.

I would do liposuction during the surgery then Kybella later if needed. There would likely be less treatments. As a general principle, doing inflammatory treatments in the area of surgery is probably more traumatic than doing separate procedures and allowing for smaller healing processes. 

Thank you for your question.  I completely agree with Dr. Sieber - if you are planning to have surgery under general anesthesia with your plastic surgeon, I would probably recommend submental liposuction over Kybella.
Kybella is an excellent treatment to reduce fat under the chin, and I use it often in my clinic.  That said, in most patients, it requires multiple treatments for best results.  It's a great option for patients with small pockets of fat under their chin, particularly if they want to avoid the risks and downtime of surgery.  However, if you are planning on having surgery anyways, liposuction may actually be more cost effective overall, and provide you with more immediate results.  It may be worthwhile discussing this option with your plastic surgeon.
If you do decide to proceed with Kybella, I would probably wait until after your surgery.  It should not impact your fat grafts on your cheeks or under your eyes.  Best of luck!     

Thanks for the great question. This might be a silly question, but why don't you have your surgeon do liposuction of your neck since you're already going to be asleep for surgery anyways? If you were my patient, I would prefer that you waited until after surgery to get the Kybella done. The Kybella should not have any effect on the fat placed in your cheeks or under your eyes. The best thing to do would be to discuss this with your surgeon to see what they think.
