I am planning on getting kybella in about ten days from a doctor. I have a forehead lift, breast lift as well as fat injections in my cheek and eye hollows (by a different plastic surgeon), scheduled about 6 weeks later. Is that an issue at all? Will the kybella affect the surgery or will it affect the fat transfer injections? Is it better to wait until after surgery to have the kybella? Thank you
Answer: Don't worry, be happy! Congratulations on all the procedures you will be having. Kybella itself will not affect any of the treatments you will be having, though in my experience, should you decide to have liposuction in your neck or a neck lift in the future, Kybella may make it a bit more difficult for some surgeons to achieve an optimal result due to the scar tissue that forms after the procedure. All the best,Carlos Mata MD, MBA, FACSBoard-Certified Plastic Surgeon

Answer: Will Kybella Affect a Future Surgery? Kybella is FDA-approved only as a treatment for submental fat – in other words, a double chin. All of the other procedures you mentioned are on other areas of your body, so they should not be affected by Kybella, as in studies Kybella has never been shown to spread beyond the tissue it was injected in. Nevertheless, your surgeon should be aware that you are contemplating Kybella, just in case there is some overlap. Be sure to have your Kybella injections performed by a board-certified dermatologist for the best results.

Answer: Kybella Results and Plastic Surgery--add thermage, ultherapy, exilis, VASER, ThermiRF Kybella won't interfere with your future scheduled surgeries. Keep in mind, Kybella results can take 6-8 weeks and does require a series of treatments to get improvement. For best results with Kybella, I recommend a combination approach with thermage, ultherapy, exilis. VASER liposuction in combination with ThermiRF is an alternative for contouring the chin, if you're a candidate. I recommend getting a formal evaluation with a cosmetic dermatologist. Best, Dr. Emer

Answer: Kybella and plastic surgery I assume that you are having the area under your chin treated with the Kybella. If that is the case, then this should not affect the forehead lift, breast lift and fat injections into your cheeks and eye area that you have planned 6 weeks later.

Answer: Kybella treatments Thank you for your question kimpm16. Kybella is the first and thus-far only FDA-approved non-surgical injectable treatment for the double chin. If I had a patients interested in Kybella and planning on having cosmetic surgeries in other areas I would say not to be concerned and that Kybella would unlikely affect the other surgeries. It is important to understand that a series of 2-4 Kybella treatments is required for full results, and sometimes up to 6 treatments. I recommend that my patients have Kybella treatments every 3 months. Please consult with a doctor for specific recommendations. Good luck!
