Tyndall effect and swelling under eyes after Restylane

agree with the comments below.  if you did bruise, in that particular area the discoloration can take quite some time to go away (this has to do with the anatomy of the area and the nasomalar ligament, part of the reason black eyes in boxers can take so long to go away).  Following up with your plastic surgeon is the right thing to do - as has been discussed any lumpiness and discoloration if indeed the filler is too superficial can be addressed with hyaluronidase. give it a little more time, and follow up with them.  I'm sorry you're having to go through this but you will get through it.  Good luck!

Thank you for sharing your question and photo. The darkness is most likely a bruise. The Tyndall effect is highly unlikely when Restylane is injected in the tear troughs. It is more common with Juvederm and Belotero. Monitor the area for a few more weeks and see your doctor if the problem does not resolve. Good luck,

Typically, restylane causes less of a tyndall effect versus the other hyaluronic acid fillers when injected under the eyes. Massaging the area and warm compresses can help to smooth out the product and improve the appearance of the restylane. Alternatively, you can ask your surgeon to dissolve out some of the excess product with small amounts of hyaluronidase although you may lose some of the cosmetic improvement.

Unfortunately, the outcome is less than what was desired and a good solution would be to get that dissolved and start again by someone else. Dr H Karamanoukian

The product was probably put a little to close to the surface of your skin unfortunately. This produces that blueish color that does not look great under anyone eyes. I recommend you go back to the same doctor and ask them to take a little bit out. They can dissolved a little with Hyelenex. Good luck Dr. Downie!

Thank you for your question.  It is difficult to tell with the lightening in the photo but you could have some residual bruising that could be causing some of the blue coloration.  Also, the swelling could take another week or so to fully resolve.  Watching and waiting is a good option.  However, if you are unhappy with the lumps you can have them injected with hyaluronidase.  A deeper injection of restylane using a cannula can help to minimize the Tyndall effect, decrease the risk of bruising, and give a smoother result.  I wish you the best!

In order to avoid swelling or Tyndall effect under the eyes, I inject Restylane deeply and not superficially.  With proper technique, most of these problems can be avoided.  I also like to use a cannula to help avoid bruising under the eyes. Some people can still get some bruising or puffiness under the eyes for a few days even with the best injection technique.  It is usually best to give it at least a week for any swelling or bruising to resolve.   If your problems persist, you could have the filler dissolved with injections of hyaluronidase.Regards,Dr. Ort

If you have filler placed superficially then you can have it dissolved with hyaluronidase. Best of luck.
