1. Is restylane (or any other lip filler) safe for people with an auto immune disease (currently in remission)? 2. How effective, aesthetic & safe are fat transfers? Are they permanent?
Answer: Lip Augmentation with Fillers or Lip Implant or Fat there is no reason autoimmune disease should affect your filler. the lips do well with HA fillers like voluma and restylane silk or juvederm. Best, Dr. Emer.

Answer: We usually don't recommend fillers for patients with autoimmune disorder. fillers are not recommended for patients with autoimmune disorders. Since we have not really clear on what activate our immune system in these conditions. Fat transfer will be the safest alternative. but even that could activate the immune system and could cause problems. Fat transfer is not permanent. Some of the fat disappear and some remain. each surgeon mentions different percentage of the fat survival. it is very much technique related.

Answer: Lip Filler safety Thank you for your questionAlthough I am not a Rheumatologist I have had many patients over the years with autoimmune disease who have posed this question to their doctors and in my experience they have all been given clearance for treatment with Restylane. In the setting of remission I have found no difference in my patients with autoimmune disease and those without. Patients in the midst of a flare up are best to hold off until there symptoms are under controlFat is an excellent option for adding volume to the upper face and certain areas of the lower face as well. I have not found fat to be permanent but long lasting. I do not feel fat in the lips is the best option and believe Restylane is a better alternative To be safe it is probably best to check with your doctor to be sure they have no objection with you undergoing treatmentBest of LuckDrG
