Complications afer cosmetic surgery such as bleeding, infection, numbness, and bad scars should be uncommon when performed by experienced surgeons. All together the occurence of these complications should be less than 1-2%. Life threatening complications such as heart attack stroke and blood clots should be even much less. it is important that your surgeon understands your complete medical history including all previous operations and medical conditions, including allergies and medications that you take. be honest with your surgeon during your consultation. It is also recommended that you choose a real Board certified surgeon in the specialty that treats the type of sugery you are interested in. Sometime there can be some overlap of specialties, but qualified trainging is the first major question you should ask about. Finally attention to detail before, during and after surgery should help to reduce the occurrence of life threatening complications to only the most rare of times.
All surgeries come with risks, mainly bleeding or infection, however the incidence of complications with a board certified plastic surgeon are very low, and the possibility of dying during surgery is probably far less than the probability of dying in a car accident on your way to surgery. Good luck!
Risks associated with gynecomastia surgery include infection, bleeding, asymmetry, under or over correction, skin contour irregularities, loss or change of sensation, recurrence of gynecomastia, pneumothorax and the need for additional surgery. Potentially life-threatening problems such as deep venous thrombosis/pulmonary embolism are very rare. My best advice: make sure that your surgeon is a board-certified plastic surgeon who can demonstrate lots of experience, SAFELY achieving the types of outcomes you would be pleased with. Best wishes.
It is highly unlikely that you would be put into a life threatening situation if you chose highly qualified surgeons to care for you. Experience matters. Reputation matters.
There are risks any time you go under anesthesia and have surgery. The best way to minimize your risk factor is to see a really experienced surgeon such as a board certified plastic surgeon. Hope this helps.
Gynecomastia complications are not life threatening. When Gynecomastia surgery done by a gynecomastia surgeon is generally safe.
Any surgery has a risk of complications mostly from anesthesia in theses type of procedures. A life threatening risk is extremely low when the surgery is performed by a board certified plastic surgeon with extensive experience with thesis operations.Good Luck!
Hello and thank you for your question. Any surgery can have complications related to the anaesthesia or the surgery but is rare.Complications can be minimised by getting the surgery done by an experienced and qualified surgeon.
Thank you for your question. Typically any complication from gynecomastia is non life threatening and easily taken care of. The most common of these are hematoma, (blood collection), seroma ( serum collection) under resection/over resection and distortion of the areola. At our practice, we avoid distortion of the areola by locating the incision off the chest entirely. We are able to use all modalities to treat gynecomastia, (ultrasonic lipo, conventional Lipo and direct glandular excision ) without an icision around the areola that tends to scar poorly and distort the nipple/areola. Consult with several Board Certified Plastic Surgeons in your area to discuss all of your options.Best wishes.
it would be very unlikely that you would have a heart attack or pulmonary embolus or life threatening infection etc from this surgery. Of course, it is possible but the chances are very small. We all drive cars yet many people are killed driving cars. you have to weigh the risks and benefits for you. Most people getting this surgery are healthy which makes the serious risks extremely low.david berman md
The hardness you feel under the nipple-areola areas is probably normal swelling or erly scar tissue. You should contact your surgeon's office even though it is out of town. Your surgeon will be the best one to guide you on this.
Thank you for the photo. It is not uncommon to develop tethering down of the tissues to the muscle after gynecomastia surgery. Massaging should help. And this should improve over time. If it doesn't it is rather easy to improve with a small procedure in the office under local anesthesia. Fo...
