Hi there thanks for sharing your question. Since there is a risk of post operative bleeding post gynaecomastia surgery, patients are advised to refrain from strenous activies , lifting heavy weights for a period of 6 weeks. Going to gym and weight training can be started gradually after 6 weeks.
You should discuss this with your Board Certified Plastic Surgeon. For my patients, I do not want them to do any type of formal exercise for 4 to 6 weeks after surgery depending on how they are healing, and I want them to wear a compression garment for 6 weeks. Good luck.
After undergoing gynecomastia surgery, it's essential to follow your plastic surgeon's post-operative instructions carefully. Typically, you should avoid strenuous activities, including going to the gym, for a certain period as advised by your plastic surgeon. This is usually to ensure proper healing and to minimize the risk of complications.Your plastic surgeon will provide specific guidelines tailored to your individual case, but it's common for patients to be advised to avoid activities that could strain the chest area for several weeks following surgery. It's crucial to allow your body adequate time to heal before resuming vigorous exercise routines. Before returning to the gym or engaging in any physical activity, it's best to consult with your plastic surgeon to get recommendations based on your progress and recovery status. They can provide guidance on when it's safe to gradually reintroduce exercise into your routine while ensuring the best possible outcome from your surgery.
Gynecomastia is an invasive surgery, though it is for cosmetic purposes, it is just as real as any other surgery. This crucially intimates that the patient should be well rested after the surgery until healing is complete. As the surgery occurs in the torso region, the patient is going to have limited movement in surrounding regions as well. Therefore, it is not recommended that there be much arm movement unless cleared by the surgeon. As a result, this of course limits the ability of the patient to exercise as well. Resuming light lifting and exercise can begin after 6 weeks which is gradually built up but the patient still should not over do their regime until cleared by their surgeon. Exercise is also not advisable after down time due to the high risk of post operative bleeding after having gynecomastia surgery. This could have effects on the results and may also require an additional surgery. Therefore, it is always best to follow the advice of your surgeon to the T.
Dear Anish,For me, gynaecomastia surgery is the surgical procedure that I perform that is at the highest risk of post-operative bleeding. It is therefore imperative that you rest and recover post- surgery and follow your surgeons advice/instructions. For my patients they are wearing compression garments and avoiding physical activity for 6 weeks post-operatively. Exercise utilising the chest is then gradually re-introduced.Bleeding and seroma collections post-operation as a result of your exercising can result in you needing to go back to the operating theatre and will affect the final results.I wish you well.Marcus
Gynecomastia surgery is REAL surgery and your body needs time and rest in order to heal properly. Exercise too early in the postop period can lead to swelling and bleeding under the skin, which would be extremely counter productive and would result in a less than optimal surgical result.Best is to follow your surgeon's instructions. For my patients, I am strict about no strenuous exercise for one month after surgery. For further information about gynecomastia, please see my website captioned below.Elliot W.
