Gynecomastia is an invasive surgery, though it is for cosmetic purposes, it is just as real as any other surgery. This crucially intimates that the patient should be well rested after the surgery until healing is complete. As the surgery occurs in the torso region, the patient is going to have limited movement in surrounding regions as well. Therefore, it is not recommended that there be much arm movement unless cleared by the surgeon. As a result, this of course limits the ability of the patient to exercise as well. Resuming light lifting and exercise can begin after 6 weeks which is gradually built up but the patient still should not over do their regime until cleared by their surgeon. Exercise is also not advisable after down time due to the high risk of post operative bleeding after having gynecomastia surgery. This could have effects on the results and may also require an additional surgery. Therefore, it is always best to follow the advice of your surgeon to the T.
Dear Anish,For me, gynaecomastia surgery is the surgical procedure that I perform that is at the highest risk of post-operative bleeding. It is therefore imperative that you rest and recover post- surgery and follow your surgeons advice/instructions. For my patients they are wearing compression garments and avoiding physical activity for 6 weeks post-operatively. Exercise utilising the chest is then gradually re-introduced.Bleeding and seroma collections post-operation as a result of your exercising can result in you needing to go back to the operating theatre and will affect the final results.I wish you well.Marcus
