I had gyno surgery 2 weeks ago, and as the swelling is subsiding I am noticing that I still have the hard nodules, and they’re actually still about the same size as before the surgery. He did take glandular tissue out. If I pinch them, they measure about 1” thick. I had a follow up at 1 week post-op and I addressed these concerns with him and he assured me that it was normal. This leaves me concerned. I know it’ll be another 4-5months before it’s completely healed, but what do you guys think?
Answer: I still have breast tissue after gynecomastia surgery. (Photos) There is residual swelling at this point, and this appearance will change. I would wait at least 6 months for healing to occur and one year to assess final outcome.Kenneth Hughes, MD, Board Certified Plastic SurgeonLos Angeles, CA

Answer: Do I Still Have Breast Tissue After Gynecomastia? The surgical removal of gynecomastia tissue can create a great deal of post operative swelling which can take months to completely resolve.Your plastic surgeon knows exactly what went on in surgery and therefore he is the most knowledgeable person to answer your concerns. Post cosmetic surgery, both men and women are concerned that things might not work out the way they had hoped. There are so many horror stories told on the internet that it is completely natural to be apprehensive about the outcome. At this point, give yourself, your body, and your plastic surgeon a break. You won't know the actual outcome for several more months.

Answer: Gyne Dear Sbowles, It's still very early in your recovery. It's normal to have to firmness/hardness/scar tissue that may seem like nodules. Give it some time and patience. It will take 1-2 months for the swelling to resolve. Hope this helps and good luck!

Answer: Swelling 2 weeks after gynecomastia surgery Swelling is still quite prominent at 2 weeks after liposuction. It is possible you have more glandular tissue left than you desire (surgeons are careful not to overdo it and create a caved in nipple) but it is too early to judge. You may not need to wait 4-5 months but best to wait at least 2 months to see the early surgical result. If it is still too full, discuss additional tissue removal with your surgeon. This would be done surgically, not with liposuction. Good luck!

Answer: Gynecomastia surgery post-op Thank you for reaching out with your question. I would expect you to still be quite swollen at just 2 weeks out from surgery, especially if liposuction was performed in addition to the direct glandular excision. It can take 2-3 months for swelling to completely resolve, and it may take even longer for the skin envelope of the chest to retract after removal of the tissue beneath it. Scars take up to a year to fully mature. You'll see changes over weeks, not days. If you still have concerns about the appearance of the chest as you get 3+ months out from surgery, please have a frank discussion with your surgeon about the possibility of revision. It can be hard to be patient with healing, especially when you feel "back to normal" otherwise.
