Can I change my breast implant size day of surgery?

Of course you can change your mind as to the breast implant size the day of surgery, but I think it is a very bad idea.  Routinely, patients come in the day of surgery, and almost to a woman, they are afraid they have chosen too large an implant.  In my practice at the Breast Implant Center of Hawaii, those patients who changed their implant to a smaller implant the day of surgery have been upset with themselves after surgery.The majority of my patients have small breasts, and the majority of my patients are concerned about going too big.  However, decisions made at the last moment are rarely rational.  The patients who are the happiest with the size of their implants come back several times to my office, try on sizes with Jenna (our patient coordinator) when I am not there, and ultimately make unhurried decisions based on what they see in the mirror.  My recommendation is that you take advantage of the time between now and June 19 to visit your plastic surgeon, try on implants, and come to a decision.  Worrying about the size of the implant, especially at the last moment, is common but changing the implant size at that time is usually not a good idea.

I think a good 3D program and good office sizing before surgery will take most of the guess work out of selecting a size.  We want for gals to chose their size well before the surgery date and then try not to second guess their decision on the morning of surgery.  It might be too stressful for you to suddenly change your mind on the morning of surgery.  Try not to worry about cup size but focus on what volume you want to increase your breast size.  Always spend time with your surgeon and hopefully they will guide you well.Best to you on recovery.

I would visit with your plastic surgeon again!  In my practice, patients will frequently come in for consultations numerous times even without me present to ensure getting as precise of an outcome as possible.  My staff is very well trained to field questions regarding size and shape so you can review the recommendation without feeling pressured by the physician. I encourage bringing a friend or relative to help make the decision if you are having trouble with the final decision.    Asking questions, reviewing options and taking time with your decision shows me as a physician that you are doing your homework and entering the surgery with appropriate expectations.  Best Wishes!!

You state your desire to have a full "C" cup. What a full "C" cup to you or others is a point of personal reference and the volume of cc's of the implant changes breasts differently depending on your body type, torso and breast. I prefer patients to show pictures of the breasts they want to achieve and then together we decide the volume goal range. This might be adjusted slightly even intraoperatively and sizers can be placed in the pocket to better assess things during the surgery itself. We always have a full range of the implants we feel we might use in each patient. With good communication and workings you should be able to get the results you seek.  

Breast implant size is determined after very careful evaluation and discussion with your plastic surgeon. Many surgeons are prepared for last minute changes by ordering a variety of different sized implants for the day of surgery. It is always best to stick to the plan, so if you are having doubts, give your surgeon a call and be seen to try on some more implants. 

If you have concerns about any aspect of the procedure I would recommend revisit any issues with your surgeon.  You must fill completely comfortable and confident with your surgeon and the plan.

Your question is and concern is one that most augmentation patients have and should be answered with the plastic surgeon.  Call up your plastic surgeon's office and ask for follow up consultation to ensure that you are all on the same page.  In my opinion, the size should not be altered the day of surgery, even if the implants are available.  The day of surgery is one filled with emotion, nervousness, concern, medication etc.  The best time is the first time and days before....take your time and feel comfortable with your decision as guided by your plastic surgeon....A word of caution regarding opinions of friends, family members, and others as well.

Brasizes are not standardized. The same breast may fit a 34 B or 34C depending onthe bra. It is understandable to wonder, and even go back and forth, onchoosing ones implant size, wanting to be sure to “get it right.” You cannotalter the size of your implants on the day of surgery. Many surgeons order theimplants prior to surgery and may not have additional options on hand shouldyou choose another size. Saline type implants does add some flexibilityhere. Thank you for the question.Yes!! the size most likely it's chose by you and with your PS's recommendation. In my practice, all implants are in stock in case this has to be the last decision. Dr. Campos
