Caught a cold 1.5 weeks prior to breast augmentation.

If you
have a cold, it might safer to reschedule your surgery to a later date. If your fever is reducing then consult your
doctor. You may be able to continue the
surgery on the scheduled date.

The decision to proceed with elective aesthetic procedure is made by the anesthesiologist the surgeon. Generally patients on the mend are permitted to undergo the operation.

It sounds like you have some upper respiratory issue.  You need to speak to your surgeon directly about his or her feeling concerning your symptoms.  I would be a little uneasy about  proceeding.  I would also include the anesthesia team in on this decision. The last thing we want to do is cause a sever upper respiratory infection and/or possible capsular contracture issues with your implant due to an infection present at the time of surgery.

I'm sorry for the untimely illness. I would tell you to hold off if you don't feel like you are 100% yet. I know you have a lot of things to juggle since it is out of town, but there is no reason to rush into something.

If you feel unwell, regardless of numbers and labs, then postpone your procedure.  This is an elective procedure.  It is best to wait and schedule to a time that you feel 100%.

As long as your cold is viral and your WBC is normal, chest is clear, and you are not febrile you should be fine. I find it odd though that you are "going out of town" for this pretty straightforward operation ,when you live right near some of the best breast surgeons in the south right there in Memphis and another one just down the road in Tupelo ( Dr. Shell). I find it best to be able to have a close relationship with your surgeon over time so I would recommend avoiding the internet hyped implant mills that are afar off out if state where bargain basement surgery looks so incredible, especially if they are out of the country. If on the other hand you are going to a surgeon you were referred to with excellent credentials then I am sure you will be fine.

 I am sorry to hear about your concerns just before undergoing breast surgery. For the most definitive and meaningful advise/reassurance best to communicate with your plastic surgeon. Generally speaking, given that you are recovering from your illness, it is very likely that you will be able to proceed. In my practice, if you have recovered and have no respiratory symptoms, surgery would  proceed. If, on the other hand, you do have respiratory symptoms ( cough…), best to wait on proceeding with elective surgery. Again, best to communicate directly with your plastic surgeon. Best wishes.

Thank you for your question.  The main concern about upper respiratory symptoms such as coughing, productive cough, sneezing, nasal discharge and other symptoms is the effect this will have on your anesthesia.Generally speaking most anesthesiologists will not perform anesthesia on patients who have upper respiratory cold symptoms.  It is best if your airway and upper respiratory system is functioning normally before having breast augmentation surgery.

It sounds that you are recovering from your cold, with your fever gone, your cough non productive and your lab work normal.  Be sure to involve your anesthesia group with you decision. You may even be able to telephone both your surgeon and anesthesia group and ask them your questions.  If you continue to improve,I doubt they'll cancel your surgery.
