When is it OK to have round 2? Brazilian Butt Lift

I'm currently 6 weeks post-op, I love my new shape however I don't have the butt and hips I wanted. I want to start planning for a second round but when is it ok to do so? Do I wait 6 months or a full year?

Your body continues to heal well over a year postop from liposuction and BBL. Even your butt and hips continue to change after 6 weeks. Every surgeon has different criteria for when to perform a second round of surgery. I personally recommend waiting 9 months to a year to allow your transferred fat to fully settle and allow the inflammation from previous liposuction to resolve. Best wishes in your journey,

The early stages of recovery usually happen between the first and second months following surgery, while a full recovery can take up eight months to a year that is a prudent time to have a revision. While you consider round 2 BBL…

You may be in good company with many others who had high hopes for BBL but instead received disappointing results (lumpiness, unevenness, lack of projection in the central and/or lower buttock, post-deflation sagging, etc.) as most of the fat melts away. It is not quite as much the quality of the doctor nor liposuction technique but rather the quality of the procedure that is a large part of the problem.  Thus, going back for round 2 BBL most often produces the same disappointing results but at another financial loss.   Buttock implants indeed provide a more reliable, predictable, relatively safe, and permanent result, especially for adding projection to the buttock and often smoothing out lumpiness.  Occasionally a lower buttock tuck may be advantageous for lower buttock fold asymmetries and/or sagging. Please keep in mind that an extremely few number of board-certified plastic surgeons specialize in buttock implants so be sure to consult with one that is reputable and experienced. Unfortunately you may have to travel long and far away from home to find this particular surgeon. Glad to help.

Thank-you for your query. A second BBL procedure can certainly enhance your results. I usually have my patients wait for at least six months before planning a second BBL but different surgeons have different protocols. You should discuss all your concerns with your Plastic surgeon who can discuss with you his/her protocol. All the best!

Great question. The response - it depends??? No posted photos?? Do you have any more donor fat areas? Was any fat injected into the hip dips? Is your Hb or blood count OK? Not anemia? So you see your questions needs much more information.... In general terms I recommend if all the above questions are answered satisfactorily then 4 months is the time frame. You should wait at least 6 months post BBL procedure to have a second BBL.  This allows the initial fat transferred to obtain a solid stable blood supply.
