I do not recommend people gain weight for the purpose of having fat transfer procedures. Unless you plan on maintaining the excess weight doing so it’s pointless. Most people are not happy being and I have your weight and typically look better and feel better being lean. Low BMI patients need to be carefully assessed with in person consultation to determine how much that can be harvested. Rather than gaining weight, plastic surgeons, May to do more thorough Liposuction including extremities, as well as the entire torso in order to harvest sufficient amounts of fat. Delivering consistent quality, liposuction and fat transfer results is more difficult than most people realize. The number of plastic surgeons have mastered. These procedures are in a small minority. There is significant variation in outcomes among plastic surgeons for both Liposuction and fat transfer. To find the right provider, I suggest patients of multiple in person consultations. During each consultation, ask each provider to open up their portfolio and show you their entire collection of before, and after pictures of previous patients with similar body characteristics to your own. And experience plastic surgeon should have no difficulty showing you with the before and after pictures of at least 50 previous patients. We’re reviewing that transfer after pictures always confirm when the after pictures were taken that compared to the procedure. Early fat transfer results can look very impressive but do not in anyway represent final results. Fat transfer after pictures should never be taken less than 3 to 6 months from the date of surgery. There’s no correct number of consultations needed to find the right provider. Considering how much variation there is in school and experience with this procedure I suggest patient start the process by having at least five in person consultation with local board-certified plastic surgeons in your community who seem to have a lot of experience with both Liposuction and fat transfer. It’s hard to predict pregnancy related changes before you’ve had a child. Typically pregnancy related changes are going to be abdominal skin, laxity and muscle separation. Pregnancies do not change fat distribution. The best candidate for Liposuction are generally young women who have not had previous pregnancies, because pregnancy related changes are not well treated with Liposuction. In my opinion, patients should be far more selective and careful, when choosing providers for procedures that can potentially leave people permanently disfigured. Most plastic surgeons think they’re better at Liposuction than they actually are. Best, Mats Hagstrom, MD
