Is a Brazilian butt lift safe after butt implant removal? Do my chances of fat embolism go up due to my previous implants?

It would be reasonable to remove the implants and then perform a BBL, but this should not be done in one surgery. I would suggest removing the implants first and allowing things several months to settle, and then doing the BBL at a second stage. In your case there will be more scar tissue present, and precautions should be taken when performing a BBL. The safest way to perform a BBL would be under ultrasound guidance to ensure that no fat is placed into the muscle.

There is no evidence that fat embolisam is more frequent after implant removal. Implants are usually placed much deeper than fat grafts (underneath or within the muscle), while fat grafts are injected in the layer above the muscle. If this is done using ultrasound technology to clearly visualize space where grafts are injected, as we do in our practice, chances for fat embilisam are very, very low. Hope this helps.

Hello @700ccmodel, thank you for your question. This really depends the specialist performing surgery. It can be done. I advise my patients to wait for gluteal lipo injections since you have to look ahead to the long-term results. It is important to know the reabsoption rate of fat volume. The reason I do not perform these procedures together is that, in my experience, I do not get the results I require to feel at ease regarding the volume repositioning and if it will be permanent. Beacause there is an important inflammatory process, to perform this surgery you need to reacomodate tissue that has a healing process dependent on oxygen, circulation and all these things associated with it. You should be fine with removal of your undesired, gluteal implants, immediately followed by a BBL. The fat is injected, much more superficial than where the gluteal implant was located.
The chance of a fat embolus is the same or only slightly elevated (due to the two procedures)

Your experience is not unusual. The complication and failure rate of gluteal implants is extremely high. That is probably why the majority of plastic surgeons in the United States. Don’t offer the procedure. I suggest having the implants removed and letting yourself heal up and at that point, you can start consulting with plastic surgeons about fat transfer. I would personally not do the BBL at the same time as a explantation.
Without pictures, we can’t address your candidacy for the procedure. Having had previous gluteal implants, should not increase the risk of having a fat embolism. Plastic surgeons now follow safety protocol recommendations to minimize the chance of fat embolism, and that complication has dramatically decreased in incidence. There are not current statistics on the actual incidence, but does not seem to Come up in conversation very often anymore.
Debility to deliver, consistent liposuction and fat. Transfer results is more difficult than most people realize. The number of plastic surgeons of truly mastered the procedures are in a small minority. Choosing the right provider is the key to having a quality outcome and to some degree minimizing the chance of both poor aesthetic outcomes and medical complications.
I suggest patients do this I have a multiple in person consultations. There’s no correct number of consultations to have to find the right provider for considering how much variation there is an skills and experience with both Liposuction and fat transfer. I recommend patient start the process by having at least five in person as a patient before considering scheduling surgery.
