Over the past few months I have noticed that the more filler I put in my lips the more I can notice lines of creasing on the side of my mouth. My dr said that was due to my own skin deciding to appear like that because of the volume and claims that I can’t go any bigger because I will have those crease lines. She tried to fill the creases in with Juvederm but it didn’t fix the issue. Is there any way this issue can be fixed? Thank you I have in total 2 ml in my lips of Juvederm
Answer: Side effects of lip filler First off--let me say that your lips are gorgeous! The are balanced and have a beautiful shape. That creasing on the sides of the upper lip often happens when the volume in the body of the lip is increased. The supporting structures of the cutaneous lip (the part of the lip from the red border up to the nose) are not strong enough and fold in with the extra volume in the lips themselves. I have found that a small amount of filler in the cutaneous lip will often prevent that folding. Many patients and injectors don't like to do this because, intellectually, it would seem to push down on the red/pink part of lip and make it look smaller. The opposite actually happens, it helps to lift the pink part of the lip and make it look fuller. I hope this makes some sort of sense! I think your lips look great and that crease really isn't noticable. You know they are there because it is a new issue, but the average person is just going to see those pretty lips and not notice anything around them. Hope this is helpful. Best regards, Dr. Amy

Answer: Filler Required to Correct Thank you for a great question, as the size of your lips have increased with filler, this can cause the crease at the side of the lip. It can be easily corrected by injecting more filler into the crease to support the tissues and stop the fold. Have a great day

Answer: Vertical Creases From Lip Fillers Hello and thank you for posting your question! The only way to fix this issue would be to dissolve the filler or to wait until it has dissolved naturally over time. Filling the lateral part of the lips beyond their natural state can often create these creases. I recommend discussing options with your Provider to come up with a plan that will minimize the appearance of the creases in the future such as using less than 2mL next treatment.
