Receding chin, weak chin, any solutions?

Should I go for Sliding genioplasty or just a chin implant? I had worn braces and they were taken off 5 years ago. I have been feeling really bad with my weak chin, and i really want to have a nice jawline, any advice would be much appreciated.

Thank you for your question and images. A personal consultation would be best to discuss your options in detail but given your age I prefer a bony (sliding) genioplasty. There are a number of benefits of a sliding genioplasty over a implant particularly in regards to longevity and post operative issues. A bony genioplasty also has the advantage of lengthening the neck line and tightening the muscles under the chin which a implant genioplasty can not deliver. A sliding genioplasty can also be used to lengthen the lower third of your face which I suspect from your images is shortened. I do agree though that submental liposuction would also be a nice addition. Good luck.RegardsDr Guy Watts

Thanks for your pictures.   In my opinion, you would benefit from a sliding genioplasty and liposuction beneath your chin.  Seek consultation from several board certified plastic surgeons.

A sliding genioplasty is performed under general anesthesia as an inpatient procedure a hospital setting. A chin implant can be inserted under local anesthesia as an outpatient procedure which takes approximately 30 minutes. Chin implants are manufactured in a  variety of sizes and shapes, and are placed through a submental approach. Liposuction the neck can be performed at same time if the patient so desires.

Your bite seems normal.Fat in the submental area, and needs liposuction.whether a sliding genioplasty is feasible needs an x-ray to see the apices of the teeth and how much bone is available for sliding geioplasty. You may need vertical height increase and horizontal increase.

Hi, based upon the attached photos the chin is very weak.  I have performed many chin augmentations, with a chin implant, for over 30 years and find the procedure to be very safe, reliable and highly effective.  Chin impact surgery is far less invasive than a sliding genioplasty.  Hope this helps.

I think a good sized chin implant is so much easier, that unless you need your dental occlusion changed, an implant is the way to go.If there is excess fat under the chin that bothers you, a limited liposuction of the area can make an improvement too.
