African American Rhinoplasty - Are these goals realistic for my nose? (Photo)

From what I can tell it looks like you have very thick skin. In African rhinoplasty, because many patients of color have thicker skin, the way to make the nose appear smaller is to actually augment it by raising the bridge and extending the tip. Think of it as building a tent- if the tent poles are too low, the tent itself is loose and floppy. If you extend the poles and stretch the tent’s tarp, it appears taught and contoured. The models you posted (keep in mind they’re wearing makeup, are being professionally photographed, and are photoshopped) have thinner skin than you and therefore are able to have better contour and definition resulting in a petite nose. A rhinoplasty could certainly improve your nose and make it appear slimmer but will not be able to get you the noses that you posted. This is the core concept of rhinoplasty- the end result depends on your starting point. Hope this helps.

Hi from Istanbul, thanks for this question. You could definitely achieve a more defined bridge, a more refined tip, and overall, a slimmer profile through rhinoplasty. We routinely perform this type of surgery in my practice. The nasal bones are narrowed with osteotomies, and the nasal bridge is often enhanced, typically with a rib cartilage graft. The tip may also be supported with additional cartilage, and the nostrils and alae are reduced and sculpted to complement the newly shaped nose. The result would be a narrower version of your nose, without compromising your ethnic identity. Hello If you want to have a surgery you can. Your windth will be thinner than now and tip of your nose will narrow.

Based on your photos, you are a good candidate for rhinoplasty. The nose, tip, and nostrils can certainly be made thinner. No one can guarantee that your nose will look like a certain photo, but you can certainly go that direction. Be sure to see a rhinoplasty specialist for consultation.

African American rhinoplasty can certainly address your concerns. Your nose can be narrowed and refined, and made smaller and more defined overall (without raising your bridge much if at all, as you don't want that). You could be made to look more like the goal photos you show, but it's important to know that it will not be exactly what you see in those photographs. Those individuals have different facial and nasal structure than you, and look to have thinner skin than you. Such photos are helpful because they give the surgeon an idea of the direction you would like to head in, but just know that it is impossible to "copy and paste" someone else's nose onto you!

I am sure that with a rhinoplasty your nose shape can be highly improved as well as narrowed, but getting a result as your goal pictures I believe in unrealistic.

Good Afternoon! The photos you've uploaded may be realistic goals to strive for. I always caution my patients, though, that we need to find what fits your face, ultimately. To get definition in the African American nose, it's important to stretch the skin and increase projection (how far it sticks out from the face). This will change the profile, but not in an unfavorable way. It will help to narrow the tip on front view as well. Strong cartilage is often necessary and depending on the degree of change, rib may be needed. Raising the bridge is sometimes necessary for balance, but not always. A nostril reduction is often employed at the same time to bring better harmony to the nose and face. Seek consultation with a facial plastic surgeon familiar with ethnic rhinoplasty. To achieve your goals, this requires osteotomies to narrow the bridge, septoplasty with cartilage grafting to add definition to your tip, and alar base reduction to narrow the nostrils. A rhinoplasty can accomplish narrowing your bridge line, while an alar plasty can accomplish narrowing wide nostrils. The thick skin that you have in the tip of the nose going to prevent refinement in the lower half of your nose. The Model photographs demonstrate very thin skin, and That's not realistic.
