I had Genioplasty surgery in May with Dr Gurkan and I am extremely pleased with the results and my experience with Dr Gurkan. It was evident from my first consultation he knew exactly what he was doing, he had state of the art technology and we spent a great deal of time discussing the desired outcome and surgery process involved during our first face to face consultation. From my X-ray results it made more sense to perform a sliding Genioplasty to set my chin back due to the structure of my chin and tissue deposits in that area. After our first consultation I felt confident and reassured that Dr Gurkan was an expert in this field and he certainly was. It has taken a few months to heal nicely as I had an incision performed under my chin instead of the inside of my mouth due to the nature of the surgery but I could see my results already a week after surgery and now 4-5 months on it has healed nicely and I am overjoyed with the results. It is extremely natural and subtly performed which is what my desired outcome was! The reason I have given 4 starts instead of 5 I felt the whole communication and organisation could have been better. The team with Dr Gurkan at the Office were lovely but as expected there is a communication barrier and the only means to communicate is through google translate. This didn’t bother me really as it’s expected when you’re having surgery in a different country and Dr Gurkan spoke perfect English but it’s just a forewarning. I would say the area that let them down the most was the organisation, I found if I had queries beforehand it would take days to respond, and any responses were sometimes vague or difficult to interpret. When I arrived in Turkey I had to have an X-ray, no appointment or address details was provided, it was suddenly whatsapped to me on the day and was told I had to be there within the hour. And the same with post op visits it added to the stress of preparing and recovering from surgery and I think it could have been organised more effectively. There was also an issue with money but admittedly this was more my mistake. I think a lot of confusion could be avoided if they provided documentation pre surgery on all the address details, money and agreed price and currency, name of team members and the process involved pre and post surgery details. Travelling overseas for surgery is a scary experience so it should be as smooth as possible for the patient and unfortunately this is where they lacked.

I had rhinoplasty surgery about 1 year ago. I had a slight bone protrusion in my nose and in addition, I had difficulty breathing due to nasal flesh. Since I was always told that nose surgery was difficult, it took a long time to decide on surgery, but I was not happy with my appearance. I contacted his team and had a preoperative consultation with Mr. Gurkan before the surgery. We talked in detail about what kind of nose I wanted, which noses I did not like and all the questions I had in mind. Mr. Gurkan was very friendly and warm. He answered all my questions without getting bored. I surrendered myself to the hands of talented Mr. Gurkan with infinite confidence. After a successful surgery, Mr. Gurkan and his team were in constant communication with me. I wanted a natural nose and so it was. My recovery process was very fast, I started working at home after 3 days, and after 1 week I was already back to work. I wish I had this surgery earlier. I am getting really nice feedback from my friends who know my surgery process. For those who don't know, no one understands that I had a nose surgery unless I tell them. Just as I wanted. I am so pleased to have chosen Dr. Gurkan for my chin surgery. It has been life changing for me, I wish I would have done it years ago. There were pros and cons for travelling to Istanbul for surgery from the UK, I did find it more stressful being abroad and not knowing the language. Although, I did have to take my toddler with me, which anyone reading would probably think an insane idea, it was. However, it was all worth it as Dr. Gurkan is a very talented surgeon and I was able to afford to have an implant and under chin fat removal, which added to better results. The team were helpful, if you are travelling from overseas, I would recommend following their advice and staying in a nice hotel that can organise taxis for you. It’s definitely worth factoring it in as part of the overall cost, as we stayed in an Airbnb which made it more stressful. The clinic and hospital are in different parts of the city, and you have to be at the hospital very early, so if you stay in a decent hotel they will be able to help with organising taxis/ directions. Dr Gurkan is friendly and welcoming, and his team did their best to answer all my questions. I think you have to bear in mind that it’s a different country, so culturally there is a different approach to customer service, and the communication was sometimes a bit difficult, but I understood that this would be the case when choosing to have a medical procedure overseas. The hospital was nice, the staff didn’t really speak much English but they utilised google translate, and they were all very friendly so I felt reassured. Although I think they thought I was mad when I asked to see Dr. Gurkan before having the anaesthesia, but I suddenly got very worried. When he came into the theatre, he was very calm and reassuring. It has been around 5 months since my surgery, and I genuinely feel so much better about myself. I also really think that after lots of research into surgeons in the UK, Dr Gurkan is far more qualified and talented. I’m so happy I was brave enough to go for it!
