Nice to meet you! I'm Maximilian Padilla, MD. I have recently completed a fellowship in Oculo-Facial Plastic Surgery at the prestigious Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia. I received a fine arts scholarship to Albertson College of Idaho where I graduated Cum Laude, in three years, earning a Bachelor of Science in Biology. I like to infuse the dynamic intersection of art and functionality through surgery to make a meaningful impact on people’s lives. My philosophy is to treat every patient as family and help them to look and feel their best so they can enjoy every day to the fullest!
That is a great question. First of all congratulations on your weight loss that is awesome! :) Everyone has different facial anatomy that changes with age/weight loss etc. The fat that naturally surounds and cushions your eyeballs inside the eye socket cen sometimes come forward and result in those bags under your eyes. There are generally two treatments for this. The first is a relatively minor surgical procedure to remove/reposition the fat so that there is a smoother contour. The second option is for a filler injection which helps to decrease the transition between the small bump of the fat coming forward and the smooth skin around it. Have a great day!
That is a great question! There has been significant advancement in the field of stem cell therapy especially in the aesthetic surgery applications. Stem cells derived from your own plasma (Platelet Rich Plasma or PRP), or from your own fat cells can have a definite impact on the health of your face and appearance when they are strategically injected or topically applied. Many clinics and surgery centers offer these such injections and have had great success. Human umbilical cord stem cells, are a bit more complicated. Research is showing that they are a promising source of stem cells of the mesenchymal type, which means cells that have more potential to be different tissues, and many of the facilities that harvest and inject these cells are located outside of the United States. The access to these stem cell injections and availability of reliable research conclusions have made them far less popular than platelet derived or fat derived stem cell injections in the USA. So its hard to say if umbilical stem cells would be more impactful than plasma stem cells, but they are a lot harder to get. One idea that has had a big impact on many of my patients is to do fat injections, where the surgeon harvests fat from the abdomen or flanks and transfers it to the face to add volume to the areas of facial atrophy.
Hi! Good morning, i hope you had a great Labor day weekend! That is a great question and a lot of patients come in asking the same thing. Everyone has different facial anatomy and those little mounds/raised areas beneath your lower lid are areas where the fat that naturally surrounds the eyes inside of the eye socket has come forward ever so slightly. This can be corrected with surgery to remove/transfer the fat to smooth out the area, or a simpler and just as effective treatment is a small amount of filler injected to smooth the contour.
