What works best to conceal acne scars?

By Sharon at RealSelf on 11 Jun 2009

i've given up trying to treat my acne scars.  Lasers, creams, light treatments, etc aren't making a big difference. As a result i need to know how to cover up or conceal the acne scarring. My skin is brown / olive in tone.

Dermaroller or invicible ? Which one should i go for ? I want to treat my acne scars

sairaa , you don't know the ingredients. INVICIBLE is undoubtedly a great product but it does not contain hydroquinone. Hydroquinone can cause ochrnosis, which is permanent discoloration. It's just bad. Invicible scars donot have hydroquinone in it .. http://www.inviciblescars.com/scar-treatments.html.. check out their ingredients. They're just perfect

try invicible. It's great. Also , try putting on concealer until they're completely gone. You can apply make up over invicible scars. Isn't it great ?

Go for a product containing vitamin C, hydroquinone and also silicon sheets. They are specially required for treating scars.I used invicible for my scars. It worked really well. It's just the smell that uncomforted me a little bit else, the product's worth trying

Google dermaflage. They're a pain to put but if you do it correctly, it looks good.

I've been using the Made From Earth Rosehip Serum for over a week, and wanted to share how thankful I am for finding it.

As soon as I put it on my face, it felt softer, much softer to where my husband wanted to touch my face. Nothing else has helped my sensitive and upset, unruly skin. I feel better about myself already because I'm not ashamed to look at my face in the mirror, because it looks smooth now, and I don't just see lots of pores and little pockmarks from years of troubled skin and picking at my face. I don't imagine this will completely disappear the pockmarks, but I think it has given my skin the hydration it was really looking for, which helps my skin appear much, much smoother.

I'm hooked. My hubbie is using it too, he likes it.

I agree strongly that natural remedies are the best, as the skin seems to develop immunity to chemicals, even though they may seem to work initially. I have been dealing with acne and acne scars lately, which I've never had before in life. I have tried and like many of the remedies posted, but I have found that pomegranate juice works wonders for both acne and blemishes, and has worked the best for me. Fresh juice made by squeezing the seeds with very clean hands or juicing in a blender directly on a clean face (steamed a little to open pores) has drastically improved my skin, and I anticipate a full recovery from all acne and acne scars with continued use. This is very potent, and totally different from what you would get in commercial products, which have the processed(and therefore much less effective) form mixed with other chemicals. I also believe sleep before 10 pm does wonders to heal the skin and body. I hope this helps someone.

Acne scars can be more of a problem than acne because it takes a long time for them to go away. In fact, some of them stay forever on your skin. It's best to see a doctor if your face has too many acne scars. If the scars aren't big or deep however, consider treating the scars in your home using natural treatments.

My acne scars were horrendous. I am of Asian origin and the scars left pockmarks. When I was 27, the surgeon who removed my tonsils, performed a dermabrasion and while it did not completely removed the marks, I was at least psyched into believing that they were not that bad.

My home-made natural scar lightener is very simple--i mix oatmeal with a little milk and nuke it for a few seconds. I then make a paste by adding lemon juice and a little honey. I apply it over my face and let it stay there for 5-10 minutes. I rinse and use moisturizer. I prefer Neutrogena products but I change brands once I am done with it to make sure my skin does not develop resistance to the product.

In 2007, I paid for a Fraxel peel. It made my skin glow but for this glow to continue, I have to maintain it so I still use my true and tried oatmeal "facial." My skin looks flawless with a light powder but I can still see where the scars are. My dermatologist even gave me an acid peel long ago but he told me the best advice he could is "Eat healthy, use non-comedogenic products, drink a lot of water, use sunblock, use moisturizer and remember that when a man's eyes are THIS CLOSE to your face, the light has to be off already." I laughed at that but saw the wisdom in that advice.

I totally agree with your oatmeal paste remedy. Not only is it great for acne and scars it's great for helping you look younger. I'm 45 and people never believe me and think I'm 30-34. I also add brown sugar (or white) mixed with the oatmeal. After the oatmeal I wash with Dove soap and end with palmers cocoa butter. I work in a major department store and even the makeup people ask what I do and use. I laugh when I see all these women spending hundreds on over the counter products that don't work. If only they knew!

I have struggled with acne/cystic acne for about 15 years and I have had to deal with numerous scars left behind on my face. About a year ago I started using Neutrogena's "Ageless Intensives Deep Wrinkle Serum" every night. I don't really have an issue with wrinkles but I had read that it's good to start using products with retinol when you're in your late 20's. Retinol speeds up the cell turnover process so that you gain new skin faster. But what I found was that it actually faded my acne scars more quickly. It's not a miracle formula but I did find that it sped up the process. And I believe it is because of the retinol. Hope this helps.

hi...

We cant do acne scar technically scars at all. They Hyper pigmentation, which is normally doesnt help to scar by using scar cream. Kojic acid, hydroquinone, or just look for help with Hyper pigmentation. And remember that sunscreen products bear the increased because the sun make Hyper pigmentation worse. Well, I don't really know any remedies for, but I know helps out staying. I hope this stuff is useful.

How To Get Rid Of Acne Scars
nadinemarceau 13 Sep 2011
yup. treat it naturally. or try creams that have no hydroquinone. perhaps you have been using creams that contain harmful ingredients. you can check out NeuCell skin lightening cream. aside from spots and blemishes, it also works for scars, stretch marks.

I think natural acne treatment is best option for acne patient as this treatment is safe and secure. It is better to Drink a minimum of eight glasses of filtered water a day and take a supplement containing zinc, Vitamin C and E in a formula designed for skin complaints.

why don't you give another cream a try? my friends used this for their acne scars too and eventually their scars faded. it's called Metaderm. it may be effective on you too.

Not only is acne one of the most problematic skin conditions to suffer from, it can leave its mark literally even after your acne has been cleared up. For many teens and adults, having acne scars can cause feelings of insecurity. There are various methods for acne scar removal but not all of them are 100% effective.

having acne for over a year nearly has totally affected my self-confidence. with it coming and going, i wish i could find something to aid it other than topical drugs and the pill. does the honey and lemon idea really work, if so how long before you can see significant improvement? also, what makeup is reccomended and what technique is best to apply makeup to acne/acne scarred face?
glenda1955 4 Nov 2009
I was reading your comment.. I was wanting to know if that really does work on say old pock mark scars. I wear makeup an it just seems to show how worse my face really looks when I look in a mirror. I hate how my face looks. I just want to cover up all my scars like ophra whimpey does.. how do they do that. an she has an ugly face without makeup

I have had sever acne in the past and was left with unattractive scars on my face. I purchased the Dr. Max Powers Scar Serum from their website online - it was medium expensive for a scar cream - because I needed a solution. The Max Powers Scar Cream does work well, but don't expect to see results instantly. You need to apply it regularly and consistently for about a month in order to see results. It really does work though. My scars are much more toned down and less visible.

Yea, all of these work when being consistent with them. Another remedie that i use is 1 spoon of gram flour, a pinch of turmeric powder, and choose ONLY ONE to make a paste (rose water, lemon juice, or water). Leave it on face to dry, wash it off with warm water(a little tricky to take off but u'll get it) this helps even skin tone and clears pores. Works best with ethinic skin tone.

ok so i have really bad acne and everyday i wash my face and it doesnt help. i used proactive and everyone says it work but it doesnt. i need to know if that honey and cocoa butter stuff works cause i need to get rid of this acne
Presey (unregistered guest) 21 Apr 2009
Um...I would go with a half cut lemon on your face every night before you go to sleep...dont use soap...just use it after your shower...I recommend that you put it on like maybe 5 min after the shower...Do that everyday and you will notice a difference in a month or so depending on how many products you used. Honey is a great way to remove any red marks on your face. For me in the beginning I used Honey and nutmeg 2 times a week for my red marks and sleep with it and then the rest of the days i used the lemon juice. Trust me this will work. Good luck.
