Is skin cancer risk related to my level of sun damage?

Posted 27 Apr 2006

I was told there is a direct relationship between aging signs and skin cancer risk. When I compare my arms and facial skin to areas never touched by the sun, I do see lots of photodamage signs like age spots and lines. Now I'm really scared that I am at a high risk of skin cancer. Does anyone know if this is true?

There is absolutely a correlation between sun exposure and skin cancer. If you have any new moles, freckles or patches of discoloration that have recently arrived, changed shape or profile -Go see your doctor.

Freckles and pigment changes are your skin's response to protecting itself from being exposed to the sun. In the future make sure that you wear a sunblock with at least SPF 30 that covers UVA and UVB rays.
