Answer: Abdominoplasty Thank you for your question. With an abdominoplasty, all of the tissue from the umbilicus to the pubic region is eliminated. This means that the skin and fat from this region is completely removed. You can expect a flatter, smoother contour to your abdomen after this procedure. I recommend speaking with a board certified plastic surgeon to discuss your concerns.

Answer: Tummy Tuck Fat Removal Yes. You will have removal of fat with a tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, whether or not liposuction is used. This is because the abdominal wall has a number of layers, such as: skin, subcutaneous fat, superficial fascia, more fat, deep or muscle fascia, and multiple layers of muscle, followed by linings of the inner abdomen, or peritoneal cavity, where the visceral fat is located. A traditional abdominoplasty removes all tissues down to the deep or muscle fascia. So this includes skin, and multiple layers of fat in addition to superficial fascial tissue. Liposuction would additionally remove fat without additional skin and fascial tissue removal, usually of the lateral abdomen and/or flanks. There are some situations where "lipoabdominoplasty" is best and some where it is not. These are good conversations to have with your surgeon prior to your procedure so that your goals are met safely.

Answer: Fat removal From your photo it appears you are a great candidate for the tummy tuck. It will remove the fat that is attached to the skin that is removed. It will also repair abdominal wall laxity. Many patients opt to add liposuction to the surgery to address the hip/flank area to enhance the results from the tummy tuck.

Answer: Very little fat if any would be removed without liposuction During a tummy tuck procedure, the skin and fat at the lower portion of your abdomen will be removed. The remaining upper portion of skin and fat is stretched down to her bikini line, and a new place for your belly button is made. Without liposuction, thickness of this upper portion of skin is not significantly changed. This is because the blood supply to that skin runs partially through this fatty layer. Significant removal of this fat would put a patient at risk for l wound healing problems. One done in combination with liposuction, the fat is removed in a safer way because the blood supply is better maintained.
