Can a rhinoplasty surgeon remove a cyst during the procedure?

Question

I have a small cyst on the left side of my nose, initially I thought it was a pimple but it has been on my nose for about 2 years. I've tried to get rid of it but nothing has worked. I'm scheduled for rhinoplasty in 2 weeks, could somebody PLEASE tell me if this will interfere with my surgery at all and if my surgeon should remove it while he is doing the procedure? Could the cyst interfere with my healing in any way?***What would you recommend? Please give me a quick response.

It is very common to remove small moles, cysts and other skin lesions at the time of a rhinoplasty. It has not effect on the final outcome. You should make sure you see your surgeon about this beforehand as he or she may want to document the lesions and photograph them as well as plan the incisions. I would not recommend surprising them with it on the day of surgery as the surgeon may not be too pleased.

Very reasonable to remove a small skin lesion or growth from the nose at the time of a rhinoplasty. Your doctor should be open for discussion with this.

If this is a small cyst, and it is not in a place where it  could affect blood supply, then your rhinoplasty surgeon should easily be able to remove it during your procedure.

I generally do not remove any skin lesions on the nose during a rhinoplasty procedure. It may contain chronic infectious material. In addition I do not like to have any unprdictablity when I do a rhinoplasty. My recommendation is htat you resolve the cyst, then have your nose surgery.

Generally, there is no issue with removing a small nasal skin lesion while undergoing a rhinoplasty.  However, it really depends on how big the lesion is, where it is located, and its history (does it drain, is it painful, does it get infected frequently, etc).   It is definitely worth discussing with your rhinoplasty surgeon.Good luck!

If the cyst does not have a history of becoming infected or draining, it would be possible to remove simultaneously, potentially. If you are able to remove the cyst under local anesthesia in the office first, allow swelling to resolve, then do you rhinoplasty, this would potentially lead to a more predictable result. If done together, it might be difficult to judge intraoperative swelling and asymmetries that are caused by cyst removal versus normal swelling from rhinoplasty.
