I had a breast lift and implants placed 6 years ago. Over time, I have noticed that they have shifted positions and are both lower and to the sides of my body. I recall specifically discussing and agreeing to saline implants around 350/375cc. I requested my records and now I see that they are 400cc and silicone gel implants. I’m very overwhelmed now knowing the size and type of implants and with these factors I want to know if I can still remove them under local anesthesia.

Answer: Implant removal under local anesthesia is possible. Under ideal conditions, removal of silicone gel implants can be very straightforward. If your tissue is thin, the implants are intact, there is no capsular contracture, then the implants could be removed relatively easily. What might make it somewhat more difficult is that the implants are ruptured and then, the free silicon in the pocket would need to be cleaned out and this may be uncomfortable under only local anesthesia. The 20 minutes that it takes to remove implants under general anesthesia, allows, your surgeon to deal with any eventuality with you asleep and comfortable. Best wishes.

Answer: Can breast implants be removed under local anesthesia? 400 cc, silicone gel implants Hello @Brave271146, thank you for your question. It is always safer to use general anesthesia for a surgical procedure. General anesthesia has been used safely in hundreds of thousands of surgeries each day, with very few adverse events being reported. In fact, many studies have suggested that using general anesthesia for major procedures such as this one can actually reduce the risk of complications compared to using local anesthesia. Best wishes!
