Hi, I had Vaser Lipo to my flanks 16 years ago I am thinking of having a BBL and would want the fat taken from my flanks again, but would this be an issue? The first vaser left me with a small shallow dent either side but it's not big enough to bother me. Just wondering if having it done again would cause even more issues? And if the fat would be ok to be inserted into my buttocks? Thank you
Answer: Vaser Lipo in same area Secondary/Repeat/Revision Vaser liposuction ion patients who have had liposuction elsewhere is very common in our practice. Good results are expected, however, prior scar tissue can limit expectations, Usually, less fat is available but can be used for BBL transfer. Improvement overall is expected, but some contour irregularities persist and never go 100% smooth. Also repeated liposuction in the same area can have prolonged swelling, healing and new scar tissue. Expertise and experience is a plus and should be discussed with your/a plastic surgeon who performs revisions on a regular basis.

Answer: Redo VASER liposuction First, I recommend visiting a plastic surgeon to evaluate the dent and fat supply in the flanks. Unfortunately, if you are a candidate for liposuction/fat grafting, your only option, in my view, is another VASER liposuction since the previous one likely caused a lot of scarring that would be almost impossible to smooth and release fat with suction-assisted liposuction or power-assisted liposuction. I am unaware that the remaining fat is of lower quality; you might not have a lot of fat.

Answer: Considering a Second Vaser Lipo and BBL Hi Tina, It's possible to have Vaser liposuction in the same area, but there are a few factors to consider, especially if you had the procedure 16 years ago and now want to use the fat for a BBL (Brazilian Butt Lift): Scar Tissue: Since you’ve previously had Vaser liposuction, there may be scar tissue in the treated area. This can sometimes make the procedure slightly more complicated, as the surgeon would need to navigate through these tissues. However, a skilled surgeon experienced with revision liposuction should be able to handle this. Fat Quality: The fat in the flank area should still be usable for transfer to your buttocks. Over time, enough fat may have accumulated to allow for harvesting again. Your surgeon will assess if there is sufficient fat available for a successful transfer. Potential for Further Irregularities: Given that your previous Vaser lipo left you with small dents, there’s a chance that having the procedure again could result in additional irregularities. However, a skilled surgeon can help minimize this risk through precise fat removal and grafting techniques. While it’s not uncommon to have Vaser lipo in the same area, it’s important to consult with an experienced surgeon who can evaluate your skin, fat quality, and any existing scar tissue to determine the best approach for both your flanks and the BBL procedure.

Answer: Secondary Liposuction Having a previous Liposuction, especially if it wasn’t done well makes for having quality results from a secondary procedure difficult. I often don’t schedule secondary Liposuction procedures in regards to getting Liposuction results. In regards to harvesting fat for fat transfer, it may be a reasonable option. Previous use of ultrasound assisted liposuction is likely to have more scar tissue than traditional liposuction because the treatment is more aggressive. It’s also less likely that there is a substantial amount of fat harvest. Liposuction outcome as a secondary procedure is based on the first procedure being done well. Without seeing pictures that we can’t begin to make an assessment. As a general statement typically advise secondary Liposuction. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
