Answer: Upper back I would make sure they get your middle and upper back with the liposuction. It makes a big difference.

Answer: Getting Liposuction When you say, including saddlebags, then this implies other areas are being treated. It would be helpful if you first and foremost described what your primary concern is and what you’re hoping to achieve. I’m going to guess that you’re going to have liposuction of your midsection and that this was the primary goal. I typically view the entire torso as a single anatomic unit and generally prefer to treat the entire torso if I’m going to do liposuction. A Full torso typically includes the following sub units. Upper abdomen, lower abdomen, love handles, waist, , the entire back and under arms or armpits all the way to the side of the breast. In a male patient, it would be the entire torso, but in female patients, it’s everything except the breast and upper chest. Spot treating the torso leads to unnatural transitions between treated and untreated areas. As a general statement, delivering consistent quality, Liposuction results is more difficult than most people realize. The number of plastic surgeons who approach mastery of this kind of work is relatively small. Poorly done, Liposuction that can leave disfigurement that is permanent and irreversible. The importance of provider selection is absolutely critical. to find the right provider I recommend patients have multiple in person consultations. Bring pictures of yourself to use as reference during the consultation. Do not rely on memory or looking in mirrors to remember what your body looks like. During the consultation ask each provider to open up their portfolio and show you their entire collection of before, and after pictures of previous patients who had very similar body characteristics to your own for whatever area the surgeon is recommending treatment. Don’t forget to assess the outcomes of all anatomic areas being treated. It’s also important that you have a very clear understanding with your provider. What areas will be included and what areas will not be treated. An experienced plastic surgeon should have access to hundred or even thousands of before and after pictures to choose from. Take careful notes during the consultation, especially regarding the quality and quantity of the before and after pictures. Use pictures of yourself as reference when reviewing before and after pictures. Make sure the provider is showing you examples of patients who had similar body characteristics. Your surgeon should discuss with you your level of candidacy for Liposuction. Not everybody seeking Liposuction is a good candidate for this procedure. In a nutshell, the ideal candidate for Liposuction young people with tight skin and thick layers of subcutaneous fat in undesirable areas. The opposite is also true. Older individuals have substantial skin laxity, and thin layers of subcutaneous fat are not going to get good results from Liposuction. Skin laxity is the number one reason the patient failed to be good candidates for Liposuction. It’s also important to understand the thickness of your subcutaneous since this is the only tissue layer that’s going to be treated. There are two variables that are going to determine the outcome. The first is the patient candidate for the procedure and the second is the skill of the provider. I don’t believe that the equipment used has any significant impact on the quality of the outcome. Understanding your candidacy for the procedure and selecting the right provider are the two variables that determine the outcome. Understanding your candidacy for Liposuction is critical maximizing the chance of having a positive outcome. Patient who are not great candidates for Liposuction need to understand the inherent limitation of the procedure in their case. There isn’t much you can do regarding your own candidacy, except to decide to either have Liposuction or not have Liposuction. The one single variable that’s left is the only variable patients really have control over and that’s provider selection. I cannot emphasize enough, the importance of selecting the best provider. To do this schedule multiple consultations. It is the patient responsibility to vet providers regarding their skill and experience. Rarely a plastic surgeon going to cosmetic surgery case whether they’re good at Liposuction or not. The biggest mistake I see patients make is having only one consultation and then scheduling surgery. By having only one consultation, you more or less eliminate the ability to choose a better provider. Considering how challenging it is to master Liposuction and how few providers really are excellent at Liposuction combined with the fact that poorly done, Liposuction can permanently leave people disfigured the importance of having multiple consultations cannot be overstated. I apologize about the rambling nature of the response. This was done using voice recognition. Good luck, Mats Hagstrom MD
