Does Vampire Facial work for acne?

Hello, I have been on acctuane for 2 complete rounds and am now on my 3rd. I have decided to come off of it as my joints have been very painful and I’m only finishing up the 2nd month. I am curious about this treatment, the vampire facial as it is a healthier option. My step-mom is able to do the treatment for me, but I’m curious if it will help with acne as I only see people use it for acne scarring? She did say a low grade medication alongside treatment could work. Thoughts?

Hello, thank you for your question. A Vampire Facial is not recommended for patients who have active acne. A Vampire Facial is a nonsurgical treatment option that is recommended for patients who are seeking to treat acne scars, hyperpigmentation, uneven/dull skin tone, and fine lines.

Microneedling over active acne can potentially be harmful and cause hyperpigmentation so I would be very cautious with using this treatment at home. However, microneedling with CBD is actually excellent for active acne because it interacts with our body's natural endocannibinoid system to inhibit acne producing cells and reduce inflammation. I have formulated a medical grade CBD that is pure and has gone through extensive testing so as to not cause added irritation to your skin. If you decide to go this route it is very important that you research the ingredients and the type of testing that the CBD you use has undergone. I would recommend a series of 3 microneedling with CBD treatments to get your skin to an optimal place. Going forward, I would recommend you to complete multiple in office consultations with board certified experts to discuss your ideal aesthetic goals. This way, they can better assess your face and create an ideal treatment plan for you.

Thank you for your question in regards to “vampire facial” treatment, also known as Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) facial. This treatment uses platelets from a patient's blood and are microneedled into the skin. Microneedling PRP into the skin can promote tissue regeneration and increased collagen production minimizing the appearance of pore size, fine lines and wrinkles while improving the overall tone and texture of your skin. With that being said, it is not recommended to treat on active acne as it can cause irritation and lead to more break outs. To be sure what is best for you, see two or more board-certified providers in your area for a complete evaluation to make sure you are a good candidate and that it is safe for you to have treatment. Yes, it will help however - acne requires a combination method approach to get long-term improvement. I recommend a combination of Cosmelan, salt facials, peels, lasers, microneedling with PRP (Vampire Facial), blue light, radiofrequency and isotretinoin. To take care of active acne a treatment or two with an Aerolase Neo laser will kill all the bacteria, suppress excess sebum, and decrease inflammation. 
After it's under control then you can continue the laser treatments to reduce scarring or you could do a Vampire Facial (microneedling with PRP) or both.

You will have to get the acne under control prior to microneedling. Microneedling will not help clear up acne, it will make it worst. Microneedling is to improve the skins acne scars. I would recommend a medical grade skin care line along with chemical peels to stop the breakouts.

Active acne is very challenging.The more you manipulate already stressed skin the risk of more irritation and break outs.Prp alone on open acne may help with healing, but the microneedling portion may really irritate and potentially make skin worse, especially on Accutane.Best.
