I’ve received microneedling Dermapen with prp over two weeks ago. It looks like I have staining on areas where she may have gone rougher on. I’ve never had lines on my tear troughs before. I’m wondering if this will subside on its own. Or what can I do to speed up this process. Creams, serums etc? I’m opposed to doing further treatments now. I posted a picture a day after when I washed off the blood. Vs 2 weeks later.
Answer: Vampire Facial Thank you for your question in regards to “vampire facial” treatment, also known as Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) facial. Patients with higher levels of melanin in their skin are generally more susceptible to pigmentation risks/side effects. To minimize this, it is common to pre-treat the area 2 weeks prior with topicals such as hydroquinone or kojic acid. Also, being aware that some supplements and medications can increase these risks which can affect the outcome of results. To be sure what is best for you, see two or more board-certified providers in your area for a complete evaluation to make sure you are a good candidate and that it is safe for you to have treatment. I hope this helps.

Answer: Vampire facial hyperpigmentation Hello and thank you for your question. Post treatment hyperpigmentation can occur in darker skin types. Some clinicians recommend just avoiding sun exposure while others recommend in addition to sun avoidance, bleaching creams and a short course of topical steroids. In your case case the treatment may require all of the above. Please consult with the physician who performed the procedure. Good luck, Oxana Popescu MD

Answer: Hyperpigmentation After PRP with Micro Needling Greetings mvasz89, Thank you for your question. It is not uncommon for there to be some hyperpigmentation after PRP with micro needling. I recommend waiting for at least a month to allow any residual bruising to resolve. If the hyperpigmentation remains, return to your physician for evaluation. Many times a lightening cream may successfully resolve the situation. Alternatively, you may need a few treatments with a "light Laser" like Laser Genesis to reduce the hyperpigmentation. Either way, it is best to wait and allow your skin to heal before subjecting it to further treatments which may exacerbate the situation. I hope this helps. Have a wonderful day. Robert H. Cohen, MD

Answer: Hyperpigmentation -- Clear+Brilliant/Venus Viva, Chemical Peels, Cosmelan, Salt Facial, Aerolase YAG, Hydroquinone Hyperpigmentation results such as there needs a combination approach of peels like cosmelan, light lasers such as clear and brilliant/aerolase/or laser genesis, radiofrequency based devices such as venus viva, and constant skin care (Hydroquinone/Kojic Acid) and sun protection. Bi-monthly facials with silk peel dermalinfusion are also essential to hydrate, exfoliate, and infuse vitamins and antioxidants into the skin. I recommend getting a formal evaluation with a cosmetic dermatologist and/or discussing the pigmentation with the rendering provider. Best, Dr. Emer

Answer: Hyperpigmentation Thank you for your photos. Yes you appear to have hyperpigmentation after microneedling. This can happen with patients with higher level skin types which tend to tan or pigment easily. For these patients, it is better to use a slightly more shallow depth with more treatments or to pre-treat with some medications that minimize the risk of reactive post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. In my practice, I skin type each microneedling patient to anticipate for this and adjust the treatment depths according to the skin type. The good news is that hyperpigmentation from inflammation and small amounts of bleeding/bruising almost always fades away on its own. This can be sped up with supplements such as Arnica, bleaching creams, and targeted chemical peels. Most importantly keep these areas out of the sun! Prolonged UV exposure can make the dark areas permanent. I would recommend avoid any light-based treatments to remove the pigment as it can make your skin type appear even darker. Hope this helps!
