Dropped tip and lost nasal projection 4 months after rhinoplasty. Is this my mistake or the surgeons? (Photos)

In general, swelling after rhinoplasty can take a full year to resolve and, during this time, you will notice changes to the appearance while you heal further.  That being said, the changes you are seeing maybe due to normal healing and swelling reduction, or it is certainly possible that damage was done when you were elbowed in the nose.  Either way, in my opinion you have very nice results from your surgery.

Based on your photos, you appear to have a more pleasing nasal appearance now compared to the earlier photo. Digital photography does not substitute for a consultation and examination. Consider discussing your concerns with your surgeon. Hope this helps. Dr. Joseph

The tip does not appear dropped. There is still swelling and it will continue to change. The trauma definitely caused prolongation of the swelling. At this point there is no reason to intervene. Give it one whole year, let it set in and then decide if you like your nose or not. RegardsDr. J

Thanks for the question.  At four months post op, your nose has approximately a year to finish healing before your result will be complete.  Be patient and keep your follow up appointments.

You still have quite a bit of healing still ahead of you as it can take a year for all the swelling to subside, especially in the tip of the nose. Be patient and continue to go to your follow ups with your surgeon. Best of luck!

Your nose has not finished healing, full healing takes 12-24 months. It is natural for a tip to settle in the first few months after surgery. It is impossible to tell if the trauma you describe has impacted your nose, but follow up with your surgeon and discuss this. Lastly, your nasal tip has plenty of upward rotation and more would look unnatural. Be patient, and follow up with your surgeon.

In your case there are a couple of things to consider. The most important thing is the fact that you have trauma to the tip of your nose relatively early after your surgery. It is typical for the tip of the nose to drop somewhat After the surgery however this does not occur within the first six months or a year sometimes. Therefore I think it’s more likely that the elbow to your nose might’ve caused the troop ti after the surgery however this does not occur within the first six months or a year sometimes. Therefore I think it’s more likely that the elbow to your nose might’ve caused the tip droop!

It is normal for the nasal tip to drop after surgery and as surgeons we take this into consideration. The tip is slightly rotated in the beginning with the understanding it will settle back down. I am unsure of what your proposed results were however you appear to be healing nicely. Best regards, Michael V. Elam M.D.
