Hello, I’m wanting to have a rhinoplasty procedure. I just want a smaller nose. I don’t like my bulbous droopy tip especially when i smile and the width of my nose at the top. I’m wondering which wold be the best approach for the results I would like o achieve or if they are achievable with a closed rhinoplasty approach as that would be my preference. Thank you
Answer: Ethnic rhinoplasty open or closed? Don't be scared of an open rhinoplasty, the scar is not perceptible, and in wide ethnic tips, the results are much more predictable--at least in my experience. Selecting your surgeon is vastly more important than trying to choose the technique. Pick an experienced surgeon that you trust and let him decide. I have revised hundreds of closed rhinoplasties performed by other surgeons and have personally performed several thousand open rhinoplasties without a complaint of the scar.

Answer: Ethnic rhinoplasty open or closed? The difference between an open rhinoplasty and a closed approach is the external scar across the columella with an open approach which is unnecessary with a closed approach. Excellent cosmetic results can be achieved with both techniques. There is not a best way to perform the procedure. Individual surgeons have their own preferences of how to produce the best results in their hands. What is done technically on the inside of the nose is the same with either approach. What is more important than whether a closed or open approach is utilized is the experience and artistry of the plastic surgeon and your comfort level and confidence in that individual. Following the advice from a surgeon on this or any other website who proposes to tell you exactly what to do based on limited 2 dimensional photos without examining you, physically feeling the tissue, assessing your desired outcome, taking a full medical history, and discussing the pros and cons of the operative procedure would not be in your best interest. I would suggest you find a plastic surgeon with extensive nasal surgery experience who is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and ideally a member of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) or a facial plastic surgeon (otolaryngologist) that you trust and are comfortable with. You should discuss your concerns with that surgeon in person. Robert Singer, MD FACS La Jolla, California

Answer: Ethnic rhinoplasty open or closed? The best approach would be to find a surgeon who has a lot of experience with ethnic noses. Each technique (open/closed) has its pros and cons, and if you ask someone who does only closed, they will argue for closed and vice versa. Best wishes.

Answer: Endonasal Rhinoplasty A rhinoplasty performed without an external incision is called the “endonasal” technique. For many years this was the primary approach to rhinoplasty, although over the last few decades the pendulum has swung towards “open” rhinoplasty- which requires an incision in the skin between the nostrils. If the incision isn’t concerning to you, the change you’re hoping for can definitely be performed via the endonasal technique. When you visit with a rhinoplasty surgeon be sure to mention your preference. Your ideal result can be achieved through either technique.

Answer: Closed Scarless Nose Rhinoplasty Hello!Thank you for the photographs and question! The best option for you is to find a board certified facial plastic surgeon that dedicates his/her entire practice to scarlessnose rhinoplastys. In my practice If my patients have a breathing issue, I assess that as well and determine if they need to have a septoplasty at the same time in conjunction with a rhinoplasty. With a closed rhinoplasty you can achieve any look that you desire without the risk of a scar at the bottom of your nose. I recommend going to a Plastic Surgeon that specializes in closed scarless rhinoplasty (preferred by actresses and celebrities) because there is no risk of external scarring and much less healing and recovery time. Closed rhinoplasty enables you to have flash recovery with very minimal bruising if at all. You will only have to wear a cast for 5-7 days, no one will know you had anything done. All the incisions are made from inside the nose. The goal is to finesse and enhance the nose without drastic change. It still looks like it is your nose just more refined without looking fake. Meaningful refinement is the key! All the same surgical maneuvers your nose requires can be performed with a skilled closed scarless surgeon.
