I had a full tummy tuck two years ago and had liposuction on my lower abdomen 8 weeks ago. I have gained about 10lb on the scale since the liposuction. The increase started one week post op and continues to increase day by day despite not increasing my calorie intake. I can feel fluid right across my entire stomach. My whole body feels slightly swollen as well. Is this normal during the healing process?
Answer: Liposuction after tummy tuck Liposuction can be performed after tummy tucks; however, the degree of scar tissue present often leads to increased swelling and longer time periods for resolution and results. Also, the scar tissue my increase the risk of seroma or hematoma is agressive techniques are used. It is difficult to say what exactly is going on without seeing you in person. If it is tight all over, this may be swelling; if it is more focal an enlarging, it may be a seroma. Best to return to your physician for evaluation, and if necessary get a second opinion.

Answer: Massive of fluid retention after liposuction. 10 pounds of weight increase after liposuction is more than average but not totally unexpected. This will dissipate as the body mobilizes third space fluid and discharges it.

Answer: Liposuction - Post Op Swelling Thank you for your question. Performing abdominal liposuction two years following tummy tuck surgery often results in more post-operative swelling and discomfort. This is due to the amount of scar tissue present from the prior surgery. Breaking up scar tissue with the liposuction cannula may result in a seroma or hematoma. This could explain the fluid you are feeling. Please follow up with your plastic surgeon for an in-person examination.
