UCSF graduate, board-certified Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon practicing in San Francisco. Boutique, private practice setting specializing in aesthetic surgery.
This is well overdue, but I am 6 weeks post surgery and need to get this review out since I truly feel Dr. Kenneth Bermudez is incredibly talented and the absolute best as a board-certified plastic surgeon. I can't praise or thank Dr. Bermudez enough. He goes above and beyond in helping patients reach their goals, and because of him I am on my way back to feeling and looking 100%. I met Dr. Bermudez 20 years ago briefly through mutual friends. I did not stay in touch, but when I needed plastic surgery two decades later I thought of him immediately and reached out to his practice for a consult. He and his staff are incredibly warm and welcoming, and I felt no judgment or pressure from Dr. Bermudez, only compassion and wanting to help with the best outcome for my issue. Surgery is scary (at least for me), but before going under I looked at him and just knew I was in the absolute best hands and he would take care of me. I still have 4 months to go for a full recovery, so a reminder to always stay patient as results and your body take time to heal. I am so happy I chose Dr. Bermudez...he is extremely skilled, thorough and kind (and has put a smile back on my face in feeling confident again)!
I met with Dr. Bermudez in September of 2020. I had consultations with three other surgeons prior to meeting with him. After speaking to him for a short period of time, I knew he would be the best fit. He listened to all of my concerns and provided only honest feedback. I felt very comfortable speaking to him about the areas on my body I was most self conscious about, which isn't always easy to do with the opposite sex, medical professional or not. Dr. Bermudez gave me realistic expectations and never tried to sell anything or pressure me into hiring him.I scheduled a tummy tuck and bbl with him in October. He met with me a week before the surgery to walk me through what to expect which made me feel comfortable with what was to come. He made sure that my safety and comfort was put first. He came to check on me after the surgery even though I stayed the night in the hospital and was being cared for by the hospital staff. This is an example of a doctor who cares about his patients and there well being. I never once got the impression he was just trying to make a quick buck or that he was too busy for me. During recovery, I had to contact his office once with a question prior to my first post op meeting. He returned my call in less than an hour and was happy to answer any questions or concerns I had. I had 4-5 post op meetings with him. Each time, he was kind, compassionate and patient. I never felt rushed or like I was asking a dumb question. It is evident he takes pride in his work and cares about his patients. Dr. Bermudez also has an amazing support staff. The ladies in his office, Ana Lee and Vivien treated me like I was one of their close girlfriends. Vivien made sure I was comfortable each time I came in and even helped me get redressed a few times while my recovery was still a bit rough. They absolutely go above and beyond. I never had any anxiety about going in because I knew she was there to help take care of me. And they were genuinely happy for me. Now that I am seeing my full results, I couldn't be happier. He accomplished everything he set out to accomplish. And he gave me the self confidence I've never had before. If you are looking for a great plastic surgeon, this is the one! You may find a few in SF for slightly cheaper but you absolutely get what you pay for with Dr. Bermudez. I couldn't of asked for a more talented surgeon or a doctor with a better bedside manner. I would highly recommend him to my loved ones and wouldn't trust anyone else with future plastic surgery needs. This one changed my life for the better. Thank you Dr. Bermudez!! You are awesome.
“I had a problem with bags under and around my eyes and wanted to do something about it. I was concerned about doing a surgery and Dr. Bermudez discussed the options. I decided to go forward with surgery. Dr. Bermudez performed a blepharoplasty procedure around my eyes (upper and lower) and removed skin and the fat. After the swelling went down, I had virtually no more bags or drooping eyelids. What I find amazing is that there is very little scarring or discoloration of the area where he did the procedure. The biggest challenge I have is keeping the procedure a secret because I actually look different in a good way (vs. two months ago). The pre-operation and post-operation communications and care from Dr. Bermudez's office were great. Annalee and his other staff were responsive, friendly and supportive. Dr. Bermudez and his office are from this point doing any future work I may need done. If you have questions or want pictures of me,contact Dr. Bermudez or his assistants and I'll be glad to talk to you or send you current pictures.
Dr. Bermudez is one of the best plastic surgeons if not the BEST. He is a truly gifted, expert surgeon who really cares for his patients. He always strives for perfection and getting the best outcomes possible. I know that it can be scary to pick a plastic surgeon once you have decided to take the plunge, but please rest assured that Dr. Bermudez will take great care of you. I had my second breast augmentation done a few months ago and I am beyond pleased with the results. I highly recommend him and his staff and look forward to pursuing even more enhancements. P.S. He has done my Botox as well and as expected it was perfect.
Amazing experience. I had breast augmentation surgery with Dr B. We used 350cc implants, smooth silicone. It’s been a year and I look incredible, natural and tasteful. The surgery was a lot easier than I thought. I was back to work in 3 days with a rapid recovery postoperative program. The pain pump is great and I didn’t need any pain medication afterwards. Dr Bermudez is kind, helpful and works with your goals. No ego there, just a very talented surgeon. Highly recommend without reservation.
I had been contemplating plastic surgery for 3 years but never got the courage to actually schedule a consultation. My best friend is a former patient of Dr. Bermudez and had incredible results with her breast augmentation. I finally scheduled my appointment and headed to San Francisco. My experience was amazing!! My main concerns were capsular contracture and my post-surgery look. Dr. Bermudez gave me all the possible issues that could arise but also told me all of the measures he takes to minimize those possible outcomes. He was very thorough with my husband and I and made me feel very at ease with the process. I did get additional consultations from 2 other surgeons and it was immediately apparent that Dr. B was the clear choice. He made me feel comfortabe, he listened to my concerns and requests, and he did so through the entire process. His staff is so knowledgeable and friendly and would help with all my phone calls during my recovery when I had questions. I am now 2 and half months out of surgery and the results are incredible! He is a perfectionist in his work and I could not have asked for a better outcome.
In March 2007 I topped the scales at 315 pounds @ 5'7" tall. Over the next 3 years I completely changed my eating habits, kicked a pack a day smoking habit and started exercising. But after losing 140 pounds, I was left with a lot of loose skin and saggy breasts (giving birth to a 10 pound baby and nursing for a year didn't help either!) After going to several consultations I decided to have Dr. Bermudez perform my extended tummy tuck with muscle repair, liposuction of the flanks & lower back , breast lift & augmentation with 225cc Mentor smooth round moderate plus profile gel implants. I was 175 pounds on the day of surgery, the surgery itself was uneventful and went as planned. 700ml was removed during liposuction. My recovery went smoothly, I took 2 weeks off work to recover and had my husband to assist during that time. The results exceeded my expectations in every way.
Dr. Bermudez did a great job on my TT. It's been about 10yrs and I'm still flat although I've gained a bit of weight off and on. I also had Lipo contouring done to my flanks, and back. My only complaint was that he wasn't very aggressive with the Lipo done on my back, I still had lots of fat/rolls. He told me it was skin and not fat but I've seen aggressive Lipo get rid of it on women with similar rolls.
Had my BR with Dr. Kenneth Bermudez in SF. The experience was wonderful from start to finish. He took his time, and spent at least an hour with me at our first meeting, and then spent some more time with my husband and me at my pre-op. He and his staff are friendly and answered all my questions, and are now helping us to get FSA reimbursement. He doesn't use drains, but sent me home with a pain pump worn in a fanny pack, which I removed a few days after surgery when I changed from ace bandages into a post-surgical bra. I could have done this at Kaiser, but met with the surgeon there, and did not leave feeling comfortable AT ALL. I asked for a referral to a different surgeon, and my PCP said I can only get one if I'm a medicare patient (apparently not true), and she couldn't suggest any other surgeons at Kaiser...NEXT! So I interviewed 3 plastic surgeons outside of Kaiser, and scrounged every penny for a year, until I finally settled on Dr. Bermudez. He was close by, I didn't need to take 6 weeks off of work, as another surgeon required, he was comparatively more affordable, and has a wonderful, warm personality. The price I listed above includes all the add-ons, such as silicone scar treatment, meds, blood-test, bras and a wedge pillow from Amazon, bandages, pathology, etc. I had my first post-op appointment today, and he said I was healing well and the stitches around my areolas were removed. I agree. I was expecting to look like Frankenstein's monster, but it wasn't that bad. Over 600 g was removed from each breast. Cigna had denied me this procedure before, and other surgeons also said that removing even 500g from each breast would leave me flat chested. They were wrong. I am still swollen, and it's a huge change, but I will end up being at least a B cup, if not a C, which is just what I wanted. I started as a 42DD. The difference in my neck, shoulders, and back is already apparent, and I can't believe it! I told people at work that I was having surgery to relieve pain in my neck, shoulders, and back, and I let them all assume I was having a spinal procedure, because I was too embarrassed to cop to this surgery, working with a bunch of men. The last thing I want is MORE attention on my chest. But now I don't really care. This is the best health-related thing I have ever done for myself. If you have any thoughts of having this procedure, just DO IT! Updated on 10 Jul 2017: I have very sensitive skin, and after the first 10 dyas of Embrace, by skin was red and irritated when I removed the strips. We decided to give them one more try, and after removing them after 12 or so days, the irritation was even worse. So...no Embrace for me. Doc says I am experiencing a reaction than 1 in 20 women get. He suggested switching to polyurethane strips from Amazon, along with daily massage with coconut oil, or arnica, or any other mild healing substance I can tolerate. So I'll try it. Otherwise, the scars are healed, and after approximately 6 1/2 weeks I/m all clear for excercise, and I have no other restrictions! Yay!
I lost 165# and kept it off 10 years... Having Dr. Bermudez do my lift, implants, and "batwings" was one of the last parts of my transformation. And quite possibly, the piece no one but me will ever notice. Yet, I'm ecstatic. He did a masterpiece job (he is a perfectionist!) of making my breasts look years younger; my arms are already (4 months) ready for going sleeveless, and my clothes look and fit better. I had saved up once to have this done, then wound up needing it for a family crisis... and just let it go. But I decided that 2015 was my year - I was going to get everything fixed and over with so I'd be ready for 60 (next year) and my skin problems would finally be resolved. I can't begin to tell you how awful the skin breakdown and sweat can be (I work out) when you have such bad droop that you could tuck your breasts into your granny pants. I attribute my excellent results to picking the right surgeon, AND following every instruction to the letter. I did not cut corners. I had family come in and wait on me hand and foot. I slept in the recliner (arms elevated for the brachioplasty, too). I didn't lift, or do anything I wasn't suppose to do. I took my vitamins and ate very very healthy with extra protein and anti-oxidants. I did return to work from home (no lifting that heavy laptop + files) after 2 weeks, but I took breaks and naps as needed. I also used the Embrace scar therapy strips for the arms (not the breasts, my skin is too fragile and blisters from even paper tape if on too long). I also wanted to commend Dr. B and his staff. They monitored me and took excellent care of me. (I had one tiny glitch, entirely me - that paper tape thing made one little blister), and I never was made to feel I was defective or a problem person. And I was told that if it didn't come out perfect, he'd make it right. (Even though it was my stupid body that reacted). It came out fine - but it is reassuring to know he stands behind his work.
Hi Lisatt,Thanks for your question. As long as your type 1 DM is under control and your primary care doctor has cleared you, a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) can be performed safely. The issue with DM is that it increase the risk of wound healing complications and infections, but with a conservative and safe approach, performed by a board-certified, experience plastic surgeon, the increase risks can be mitigate. Numbness in your C-section scar is quite normal and may be permanent. It is probably not related to the DM, but rather the loss of nerve regrowth in your scar. The C-section scar will be excised during the tummy tuck and a new scar with fresh tissue will be used. I have performed quite a few tummy tucks on patients with Type 1 DM with successful outcomes. All the best,Dr B.
Thanks for your question and pictures. From what I can tell, you would need large volume fat grafting to your breast. More importantly, you would also need to expand your skin envelope pre-operatively with the use of an expansion device called "EVE". It's the new device that has been redesigned (previously called BRAVA). I don't think straight fat grafting will make a big impact as your breast skin envelope appears tight. Make sure you see a board certified surgeon who specializes in this type of treatment.
This is one of the most common questions I get from my 35-45 year old patients. Non-invasive skin tightening has become very popular and it can be a good way of tightening the skin of those patients who are not ready for a formal facelift. Buyer be aware of over-selling and it is important to have realistic expectations. Radio-frequency treatments, laser resurfacing, botulinum toxin and quality skin care are just some of the options. Make sure you discuss your particular needs with a board certified plastic surgeon. Good luck.
In order to inject fat into the breast for autologous fat transfer, small needle pokes are used. They have to be placed around the periphery of the breast to make sure you get an even distribution and contour. It is not possible to inject fat into the breasts from the belly button.
Recurrent capsular contractures are difficult for both the patient and surgeon. There is no easy answer to your question. The use of ADM as an internal bra may be a step to consider, but you are correct in saying it is expensive. Removal of the implants is another consideration, but also remember, you can consider autologous fat grafting to restore some of the volume in your breast. The procedure can be done at the same time as the removal of your implants. Make sure you see a board certified surgeon who has performed at least 20 breast fat grafting procedures. Hope this helps.
