Also, my friends told me when they wanted to get liposuction, but during the consultation session the doctor told them that the fat is underneath the muscle wall tissue of there stomach? If the fat is beneath the muscle wall there is no way the surgeon can remove the fat from the stomach area? Is this true? Please explain.
Answer: Fat above vs below the abdominal wall Great question! The fat beneath the muscular abdominal wall is called visceral fat and surrounds all the abdominal organs. Patients with mainly this type of fat will have the "beer gut" appearance. Unfortunately this fat cannot be removed and any attempt to try is extremely dangerous. The only way to rid this fat is through diet and exercise. The fat above the muscular abdominal wall is subcutaneous fat (between the six-pack muscle and the skin), and this is what is removed during liposuction. Thus a consultation is important to determine what can be treated and what cannot. Best of luck and hope this information helps!- Dr. Roger Tsai

Answer: Visceral Fat and Liposuction If fat is causing the stomach to push forward this is called visceral fat and is not subcutaneous fat... therefore it cannot be removed. I suggest you see an expert for a consultation and trust what they are saying. Best, Dr. Emer.

Answer: Liposuction: Information Dear Ms. Jessica.alba,Thank you for your information and questions. We we have three layers of the abdomen.1) above the abdominal muscle tissue (external ski fat) 2) muscle (intramuscular fat) 3)below the muscle (internal organs covered by fat, the amount of internal fat dependent on overall weight and genetic distribution) Liposuction can only be safely done on fat above the muscleDiet is the only safe method to reduce internal fatI recommend that you make several consultative appointments with Plastic Surgeons who are experienced and Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. In addition ideally they are members of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (denoting by membership as having met additional criteria and a focus on Cosmetic Plastic Surgery).I wish you my best and success,R. Answer: Fat Compartments Hello,Only fat that is under the skin can be liposuctioned. Fat that surrounds your internal organs, the fat under the muscle, can not be suctioned. Only diet and exercise can affect that fat. Go on a few consults yourself to see if you are a candidate for liposuction.Best of luck!

Answer: Liposuction of abdomen In improving the appearance of the abdomen there are quite a few things that one needs to factor in. 1) Is there excess fat under the skin (Subcutaneous fat? If there is, this can be addressed by liposuction. 2) Is there excess redundant skin? This need to be addressed with a tummy tuck procedure. Also, if there is a lot of excess subcutaneous fat that need to be removed, then after removal it might leave you with saggy skin (especially if you are older and have inelastic skin). This will need to be removed by a tummy tuck procedure. 3) Do you have a split between your muscles (divarication)? If you have one, this will manifest as an abdominal bulge and will have to repaired during a tummy tuck procedure.4) Do you have excess fat under you tummy wall (Intra abdominal)? This unfortunately cannot be addressed safely by surgery. You will need to work on loosing it by exercise and diet.
