I'm having a mommy makeover the end of next month. I understand there's an average weight loss of about 15-20 lbs with this procedure depending on the pt, but do you see more weight loss as the months past following the procedure as well?

Typically, in the days immediately following the procedure, you will see a moderate weight gain of 10-15lbs because of fluid overload. This should return to normal within a month of surgery. How much weight is loss after this really depends on the patient. Ideally, you would be within 10-15lbs of your goal weight prior to undergoing surgery. Any weight loss more than this may result in skin sagging after the procedure which is not ideal and can compromise your result. Many times, however, there is some small additional weight loss due to less discomfort from overhanging skin.

Most patients do lose some weight from the procedure since skin and fat is being removed.....but 15-20 pounds seems a bit much. Skin doesn't weight that much. My Mommy Makeover patients usually loose about 5-9 pounds. But, they commonly lose more weight over the next several months. Part of this is because if they had a tummy tuck, they find that they can't eat as much and fill full quickly. The real reason is probably because they feel better about themselves and feel motivated to eat right and exercise more. After spending all the money, and going through all the pain, my patients are highly motivated to make the results look as good as possible.

This is an excellent question. Thank you for asking. It is common that patients loose additional weight after a mommy makeover, or tummy tuck (with or without 360 liposuction). There is a certain "after burn effect". Where does this come from?  It is a combination of a few events. The energy expenditure is higher during  the wound healing process. Some patients don't feel like eating too much right after the procedure. Proteins certainly help the healing process, and weight loss. ... A healthy diet and lifestyle after the procedure certainly helps to maintain the newly gained shape and can even further improve it.  We noted in several patients who have been on medication for high blood  pressure, that the dose could be reduced or the meds were not needed anymore at all. Nice side effect, no? Best of luck during your journey. It's surgery, and sometimes the recovery may not be so easy. But most patients found this procedure very rewarding. I hope this helped.
