This is a great question! Your body has 2-4 million sweat glands – only about 2% are found in your underarms. Eliminating this 2% of sweat glands does not affect your body’s ability to cool itself. With miraDry, you will experience the many benefits of reducing sweat in the underarm area, but you will continue to sweat in other areas of your body as normal. At Capizzi M.D. Cosmetic Surgery and Skincare,we only provide services that work, and we are huge advocates for the miraDry technology! Hope this helps!
Thank you for your question! Only about 2% of sweat glands are located in the underarm. MiraDry is FDA approved to safely and permanently reduce the sweat and odor glands in the underarm area. Compensatory sweating is not typical after MiraDry. Best Regards, Dr. Aldo :-)
Compensatory sweating is not typical after a MiraDry procedure. You are born with approximately 2 million sweat glands throughout your body. Your underarms only contain about 2% of those glands. With miraDry you will experience the many benefits of stopping sweat in the underarm area, but you will continue to sweat elsewhere. However, since the sweat glands are only 2% in the underarm region, it will not cause a noticeable increase in compensatory sweating in the body. Good Luck!
Increased sweating elsewhere on the body DOES NOT occur with miraDry. Only 2-3% of the sweat glands in the body are located in the underarms. The phenomenon of increased sweating elsewhere on the body, known as compensatory sweating, is seen with surgical procedures for sweating, such as a thoracic sympathectomy.
We have never had any of our patients report compensatory sweating after Miradry. The likelihood of this with surgical sweat reduction procedures is much greater. Miradry has shown us over and over again that it is an extremely effective and safe alternative to invasive sweat reduction procedures.
No, MiraDry will not make you sweat more in other areas of the body. You are born with approximately 2 million sweat glands throughout your entire body. Your underarms only account for about 2% of these sweat glands. The sweat glands in the armpits make up such a small amount of the total sweat glands in your body that you will not see an increase in sweating elsewhere.
Technically any procedure for hyperhidrosis can cause compensatory sweating in other parts of the body; however, the likelihood with miraDy is extremely low, if at all. I personally have never seen it. More commonly, the actual amount of sweating in other areas has not increased, but rather people just notice it more because they are no longer sweating as much in the underarm area. Keep in mind only 2% of your sweat glans are located in the underarms and miraDry only eliminates a percentage of them.Good Luck!Dr. Shah
Thank you for your question. I have specialized in the care of patients with hyperhidrosis since 1999.Compensatory sweating (CS) can occur after EVERY type of procedure for hyperhidrosis that has been described and performed. However, it is most likely after thoracic sympathectomy (micro ETS). I have seen compensatory sweating occur after Botox injection for hyperhidrosis (rare) and after suction curettage for axillary hyperhidrosis (rare). Fortunately, the compensatory sweating (CS) after Botox is temporary and dissipates when the Botox effect goes away 3-4 months later (i.e. temporary). I have read on realself one person describe compensatory sweating 2 years ago. He had miraDry done by another practitioner in the NY/NJ area. The patient contacted me and I recommended that he report it to the company that manufactures the device - so that it can be reported to the FDA.I recently had a patient call 5 days after miraDry to report CS in the buttocks. I asked her to call me again if she had another episode but she has not.The message that I want to leave here is that any hyperhidrosis procedure can cause compensatory sweating, but the likelihood of miraDry causing CS is very very low. I have performed miraDry since 2011.I am a Platinum Plus Provider for miraDry, meaning that I do a very large number of miraDry procedures every year. This designation is given to physicians by the company that manufactures the device.86% of my patients require only a SINGLE miraDry procedure. The Miradry treatment should not cause you to sweat more in other areas. The treatment is for underarms only and so once all of those follicles are destroyed, they cannot reoccur anywhere else. It is also not dangerous to loose the underarm sweat follicles due to the millions of others all over our body. I hope this helps. It is a fantastic treatment. I have had it performed myself over a year ago and I would recommend it to anyone.
Thank you for your question! MiraDry is a FDA approved treatment that offers an immediate and lasting solution to underarm sweat and order. In addition, it has the added bonus of a 60-75% permanent reduction in underarm hair. Laser hair removal can require around 5 treatments to see ...
These lumps could be fluid collections with or without infection. I think you should be diagnosed by your treating physician and get some medical recommendations to treat these lumps.Best wishes, Dr. ALDO
Your swelling of the arms is impressive and highly unusual. I suggest you be examined by your treating physician for a full evaluation. Wearing a compression garment, elevating your arms and massage may help in the meantime. Good luck,
