Miradry is an excellent option for the armpits. I have co-authored a book on hyperhidrosis and am aware of several research studies evaluating options for non axillary use. Best, Dr. Karamanoukian Los Angeles
Hello, here are some treatments you can use. There are a variety of techniques to decrease sweating:Botox- Botox is helpful in that it can decrease the production of sweat but not odor. It typically lasts about 6 months in the under arm area.Miradry- Miradry uses microwave energy to destroy apocrine and eccrine glands. It is better at eccrine gland destruction than apocrine and is currently only used on the underarm area.RF needling- Can be used anywhere on the body and can destroy both apocrine and eccrine glands. Has become the procedure of choice in my practice for hyperhidrosis due to its effectiveness.Nerve ablation-Not commonly performed anymore as side effects are often worse than treatment and effectiveness is often limited.Oral medications- Too many side effects to be effective.Topical medications- Works by blocking glands. Many patients state how not effective mechanism.Best,Anil Shah
The FDA has approved MiraDry only for the underarms. There's a rumor that one day there will be other areas including the hands and feet. One treatment of MiraDry in the underarm area removes 70% of the hair regardless of color and about 75 - 80% of the sweat and smell from the underarms. Most patients are happy with just one treatment.Best wishes, Dr. ALDO
As of now, the miraDry is only FDA approved for underarm use. #miraDry #underarmsweat #FDAclearance
miraDry for other body locationsmiraDry® is an FDA approvednon-surgical treatment which gets rid of underarm sweat & odor permanentlyin as little as just one treatment. The company is studying other areas and botox can be used in the interim
Thank you for your question and sharing your concerns. miraDry is a great ways to reduce swelling. Fortunately there is no indication for other body regions at this point. Botox and Dysport are great alternatives for other body regions such as the scalp, feet, hands and buttock and can provide months of relief at a time.
Its only FDA approaved for the armpit area and I would suggest waiting till studies are done to determine if it can be used elsewhere.
MiraDry is currently only for the armpits but the company is working on FDA clearance for the hands and feet... so stay tuned!
Yes, miraDry is only for underarm sweating. You will be pleasantly surprised with the decrease in moisture after 2 treatments (3 months apart).Hope this helps.Dr. Grant Stevens Marina PlasticSurgery Associates Marina del Rey, CA The Institute
Thank you for your question. We have been doing MiraDry procedures since 2011 and are designated a Platinum Level Provider by the company that manufactures the device. Platinum Level Provider designation is based on total # of cases done per year. miraDry is FDA cleared for use in the underarms. However, I do have colleagues in Singapore and Japan who are using it in other parts of the body with success. In due time, the FDA will clear the use of the miraDry device for other parts of the body where there are no vital arterial, venous or nerve structures that are at risk for injury.Read the miraDry book that I have coauthored with Dr. Raffy Karamanoukian (Kare Plastic Surgery, Santa Monica, CA). It is a FREE access ebook available on the ebook portion of my website provided on the link below.BestDr. Karamanoukian
I'm sorry about your pain and experience so far with MiraDry. Generally speaking, pain is not too bad with this procedure, but I do like to prescribe Celebrex for a lot of my patients. One treatment should reduce 75 to 82 % of the sweating and you may need additional treatments to get drier....
Any axillary lump should be evaluated to make sure it isn’t something entirely unrelated, like a swollen lymph node (gland). This would be unrelated to the treatment, but very important to investigate. If the lump (we call it a “nodule”) is indeed a result of the treatment, you’ll have had it ...
Yes, there is no contraindication with miraDry and ingrown hair scars. The microwave technology will still penetrate and treat the sweat glands. Hope this helps.
