Wondering about shape and distance between breasts. Any suggestions? (photos)

Hi. I am 28 days post op. Aside from wishing I had gone bigger, my other concern is how the look. I have my doctors appt in 2weeks. Do you think my breasts are too far apart? & the shape? I know They still need to drop. I'm just jumping the gun here & asking based on what you see, do you think they look good? I am 5'11. 137 lbs. two toddlers. 36 yrs old. BF'd both babies over a year. Rec'd 415cc under muscle. High profile gummy bears. wanted a 2nd opinion from a professional. Thx Thank you!

Hello,Thank you for the question and photos. You appear to have a great result so far. The breasts are high and firm but contours will soften as they drop and fluff. You can expect them to Drop and Fluff over the next 2-4 months. All the best

Great question and thank you for the photos.Regarding the space between your breasts, I would suggest from the images provided that your surgeon has preserved your natural distance. This can be important for long term implant stability and is usually the right way to go. On occasion (eg when you are wearing a particular shirt or top) that space can be reduced using a push up bra. That's what they're for!In regards to the implant position, at this point in time they do look a little high, but that's not uncommon and tends to settle into their pockets over the next few months.I would suggest that you and your surgeon should be optimistic about the kind of result you will get in the months to come.All the best with your recovery.Dr Nodwell

Thank you for your question and photographs, and it appears that you will have a very nice result.  After placement of implants, the overall appearance of the breasts will change dramatically over the next several months, as the implants drop, and the overlying tissue stretches to accommodate the extra volume.  At one month, your implants appear to be settling. I think your results are very appropriate for this stage of healing, and I know waiting is difficult, but judge your results at 4-6 months after surgery as most of your breast changes should have occurred by then. As far as cleavage, this is dependent upon your underlying anatomy.  If your chest was wide to begin with, then obtaining very close cleavage is not going to be possible.

I am assuming that you had your implants placed submuscular. The distance between your breasts is determined by where your pectoralis major muscle attaches  to the breast bone on either side. That is why pre-op the intermammary distance is measured to predict normal space which is 3-3.5 cm. The fact the you went very big ( I realize you wanted to go bigger) brings out the visual  distance between your breasts. If you had smaller implants with less projection the depth of the space between your breast would not be so dramatic from the front on view.Given that you are only 4 weeks out, your breast will change significantly as the swelling comes out and the tissues loosen up. Your final result occurs around six months. Being patient is difficult but rest assured things will improve. With respect to the distance between your breast that will remain the same.

Thank you for your clinical post and
photographs.  At 4 weeks it’s still too
early to formulate concerns over final shape and form.  Implants often require 12-16 weeks to drop
and soften into the surgical pocket.  The
amount of distance between the implants is usually a function of chest wall
anatomy and implant base width.  As you are
tall and athletic your chest wall is quite wide and you can simply take the
base width of the breast implants superimposed on the chest wall and the width
of your original gland to calculate an approximate intramammary distance.  The implants need to be situated centrally
behind the areola and the resulting distance between the implants and breast
mound will be the cleavage.  An
intramammary distance looks appropriate and with a normal range of attractive.  Patients are concerned about breasts being
too close together in symmastia and equally as concerned about too much
distance between the breast implants or that Tori Spelling appearance.  For 4 weeks your result appears to be
excellent.  I’d stay in close contact
with your operative plastic surgeon as they are in the best position to advise
you.
