I am middle Eastern so I have thick skin on my nose. I also have alot of issues regarding my nose. I have a deviated septum, a bump, my nose is collapsed on the left side, a bulbous tip, and wide nostrils. Is it possible to receive a smaller nose even though I have all these issues. Also, I know it would be unrealistic to expect to have a very small nose but how small would I be able to go? Thank you
Answer: Ethnic noses Great question! Without different views of the nose, no great recommendation can be provided. However, with the limited view you have provided, it can be possible to shrink the nose down to provide you with a more refined appearance. The nasal tip is bulbous and large and can be thinned and recontoured, if you have a bump on the bridge this can be treated as well and the bridge narrowed. Check out the website of a few surgeons you are interested in and see if they perform ethnic noses - that was you can see how small they can get. Also it is best to have several consultations with board certified plastic surgeons and go with the one you feel most comfortable.Best of luck and hope this information helps! - Dr. Roger Tsai @DrRogerTsai Board Certified Plastic Surgeon

Answer: Rhinoplasty Candidate Rhinoplasty requires exceptional skill on behalf of the surgeon and great communication with the patient about realistic goals and expectations. Common cosmetic concerns include a dorsal hump, wide nose, sunken nose, irregularities, and asymmetries. Functional concerns include difficulty breathing through the nose, which can and should be addressed at the same time as your rhinoplasty. In your situation, additional photos would be needed to give you proper guidance. Make sure to seek out the care of a board certified surgeon with extensive experience in rhinoplasty. Find someone you connect with, who will listen to your concerns and provide you with a framework for what is possible. Dr. Gary Linkov.

Answer: It should be possible to make the changes you describe. I doubt your thick skin would get in the way... Making several features and areas of the nose smaller is typically possible. From the photos you posted, the skin doesn't really look so thick. Your tip cartilages are strong and wide, and can be modified to narrow the tip. The bump can be lowered. Other areas can be addressed at the same time. The photos that you posted only show the tip of the nose. Photos of the entire nose would help with the analysis and help with determining what areas are likely to be changed successfully. Remember that rhinoplasty is an exquisitely difficult operation to get right, and you should only have surgery if you are able to make yourself very confident in your surgeon's skills. The changes I described above require advanced techniques, requiring skill that most plastic surgeons don't possess with expertise. For most noses, it's much better to not have surgery than to have inexpertly-performed surgery. Read my essay on how to stay out of trouble while selecting a rhinoplasty surgeon. Your nose is also a perfect example of why computer imaging is mandatory in rhinoplasty. You need to know exactly what the surgeon is planning to accomplish -- what features he thinks he can change, and by how much he thinks he can change them. I always email morphs to my online rhinoplasty consultations. When you see the surgeon's goals in the morphs, you'll know whether he has an eye for an attractive nose, and whether he shares your opinion of what constitutes an attractive nose. You'll also know whether the changes he proposes are large enough to be meaningful to you, and whether he understands your wishes enough to address all of your priorities. How would you ever get that figured out without the morphs?

Answer: All good questions... Thank you for your question and photos. Without examining you in person it is impossible to give you a precise answer or surgical plan. That said, an experienced rhinoplasty surgeon (who might be a board certified plastic surgeon or facial plastic surgeon) can review a precise surgical plan with you to hopefully make you feel confident about your decision as to how to move forward. The nose is the visual "bull's eye" or focal point of the face and restoring proper nasal proportions can impact on the entire facial appearance. An ideal rhinoplasty would leave you looking "like you", yet refining your natural features to enhance the overall appearance both of your nose and therefore of your face. While rhinoplasty is one of the most common plastic surgery procedures performed world wide, it is also one of the procedures wherein revision surgery is most often requested due to patient dissatisfaction. Do your research, and consider more than one consultation to feel confident about your decision. It is important to feel that you and your surgeon are communicating effectively, and that you are confident that your surgeon can achieve the results you are hoping for. Best of luck to you.
