I went to a consultation last year and a much experienced rhinoplasty doctor told me that i had too thick skin to perform a rhinoplasty surgery. Is there anyway you can thin out the skin and get a rhinoplasty surgery anyways?
Answer: Rhinoplasty as 100% of their practice Hello,Although thick skin is harder to work with while performing a rhinoplasty, it is very doable. I suggest consulting with a board certified plastic surgeon who performs scarless rhinoplasty as 100% of his/her surgical practice and does hundreds of these procedures a year so they know how to work with different skin types. Answer: Thick skin of nose Hello, Thick skin on nose , especially in tip region compromises results of rhinoplasty. If same rhinoplasty is done on people, ones with thicker skin will have much less definition and will take longer time to see the result than those with avearge skin. Cutting excess skin is not possible in nose. Thinning to some extent is done by removing fatty tissue from under the skin, but that alone can not thin the skin enough. Despite the limitations, in most cases rhioplasty can be done to improve the nose overall , if you are willing to accept modest results .

Answer: Nasal evaluation Hello and thank you for your question. Although you cannot make the nasal skin thinner, it is possible to debulk soft tissues of the nose and perform a tip refining rhinoplasty by trimming, suturing, and reshaping the cartilage in your lower nose. Make sure you specifically look at before and after pictures of real patients who have had this surgery performed by your surgeon and not just a computer animation system. The most important aspect is to find a surgeon you are comfortable with. I recommend that you seek consultation with a qualified board-certified plastic surgeon who can evaluate you in person. Best wishes and good luck. Richard G. Reish, M.D. Harvard-trained plastic surgeon

Answer: Thick Skin and Rhinoplasty Hello and thank you for your question. While certainly having thicker skin may make a rhinoplasty more challenging as subtle modifications of your bones and cartilage may be harder to appreciate through your thicker skin, I don't think thick skin should preclude you from rhinoplasty per se. In terms of thinning out your skin, I would caution against that as this could potentially compromise the blood supply to the skin and should be done very carefully, if at all.For more information on rhinoplasty, please refer to the link below.Good luck. Answer: Thinning skin for a better #rhinoplasty result Thick skin can be managed before, during and after rhinoplasty. Before - We will usually prescribe a daily regimen of a topical tretinoin for several months. During - Expanding the cartilage framework works best to achieve definition in a thick skinned patient. Thinning the soft tissue is another technique but the results are usually disappointing. After - We will resume the topical tretinoin. Taping can help. Targeted and limited steroid injections can help. Don't get too discouraged. With the right plan and realistic expectations, thick skinned patients can achieve rhinoplasty results they can be really happy with.
