Hi. I have a wide nose and ever since want to have it trimmed. I consulted a surgeon and he advised that I undergo alar trimming and tip plasty. For alar trimming I have no isssue, but the tip plasty worries me. Though my surgeon assured me that nothing artificial will be planted inside me and he will use my own cartilage, I'm still concerned. After the tip plasty, I might always worry not to hit my nose. Can I still pinch it or do piggy nose after? What if I accidentally hit it hard?

Hello,
After an alarplasty the tip plasty might be necessary to make your nose look even. If you do like your nasal tip already, voice that to your doctor and see if you can find an alternative. The nasal tip refinement doesn't have to be done if you think it will give you stress in the long run.

Hello, Its hard to tell from these pictures accurately,  about need for tip plasty. After tip plasty , once nose is completely healed it feels and behaves naturally. You can pinch the nose safely, do all movements and it is just like normal nose even if it is hit accidentally. Alar base reduction is certainly recommended.

I concur that some limited tip refinement might be advisable along with alar base narrowing. However it can be done without cutting the tip cartilages using suture modification only. If you like your tip as is, then the procedure of alar base narrowing only is certainly reasonable.
