No unless it is so severe that your nose is running and your are sneezing. If you have any reactive airway problems associated with your allergies, with bronchospasm, wheezing or swelling of the airway other than the nose, then the surgery would be postponed until all symptoms were under control. Also you would not want to be sneezing and coughing after a tummy tuck as it would make your recovery more uncomfortable.
Allergies that are seasonal should not have an adverse effect on your tummy tuck.Find a plastic surgeon who performs hundreds of tummy tucks each year, has great reviews, and has great before and after pictures.Kenneth Hughes, MDLos Angeles, CA
A stuffy nose due to seasonal allergies should not interfere with the healing from an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck).Following the advice from a surgeon on thisor any other website who proposes to tell you what to do without examining you, physically feeling the tissue, assessing yourdesired outcome, taking a full medical history, and discussing the pros andcons of the operative procedure may not be in your best interest. I wouldsuggest you find a plastic surgeon certified by the American Board of PlasticSurgery and ideally a member of the American Society for Aesthetic PlasticSurgery (ASAPS) that you trust and are comfortable with. You should discussyour concerns with that surgeon in person. Robert Singer, MD FACS La Jolla, California
Dear Sexy145,A stuffy nose due to allergies (ie. mild allergic rhinitis) does not typically interfere with a tummy tuck. Severe rhinitis or a respiratory tract infection, however, usually does.If you are feeling under the weather a week or two before your scheduled procedure, please be sure to notify your surgeon.Warmest wishes,Larry Fan, MD
A stuffy nose usually does not hinder surgery. If you have general allergy of the entire respiratory track that would be a different story. Also if you have a fever then surgery would be cancelled. A simple stuffy nose alone would usually not preclude surgery. My Best, Dr C
