Hello doctors, I had an alarplasty 10 days ago. I understand it is still early in the healing process, but I'm a bit concerned about the alar base. They are clearly uneven and the alar base on my left has a slight gap in the middle where the incision meets. I asked my doctor about this and he said that the skin should granulate and bridge the gap over time, or it can be fixed with dermabrasion. Is this true? Or do you think I will need revision alarplasty to fix it? Thank you in advance.

Dear Hanifa26,It is still early in your healing process to tell how your nose will turn out. There is still a lot of swelling 7 weeks post-op.It can take 6-12 months to fully heal from a rhinoplasty so patience is key.Best regards,Nima Shemirani
The base of your nose and nostril size can be adjusted with an alar base reduction if indicated by examination. Sometimes alar base reduction is combined with surgery to the tip of your nose as well to refine the top of"base triangle" as well. When you modify the base, you...
Revision rhinoplasty might be able to widen alar base in some patients. However, revision rhinoplasty is not reversing the previous alar base reduction or nostril narrowing. If you haven't already, then speak with a rhinoplasty specialist to review options.
