What is the best filler for nasolabial folds and how many syringes would it take to reduce the size of mine? (Photo)

Hi Sara. There are a few different fillers you can use to correct the volume loss of your nasolabial folds. Which filler is chosen partially depends on the preference of the injector. I personally like using Juvederm Ultra XC or Juvederm Ultra Plus XC depending on the depth of the folds. I prefer Juvederm because it is pure hyaluronic acid, its smooth, and it contains Lidocaine. Another benefit of the Hyaluronic acid fillers is that they are reversible. I think 2 syringes should probably be enough to give you a nice correction. Make sure you choose an experienced injector and I think you will be happy with the results you will get. Best of luck to you!

Hi @sarajkl! Thank you for sharing your photos. I typically use Restylane Defyne to address the nasolabial folds and piriform fossa. I would recommend 1-2 syringes. Adding too much filler to the NLF can look unnatural and can give you a monkey appearance if overfilled.

Typically, two syringes of a dermal filler product composed of either hyaluronic acid (Juvederm, Perlane) or Radiesse would be adequate. You could also consider fat transfer for a potentially longer-term result. The key is that the nasolabial fold would be more shallow but would still be present especially when you smile. The fold is natural and overly filling this area can be more objectionable that a slightly deep fold. I hope this information is helpful.Stephen Weber MD, FACSDenver Facial Plastic Surgeon

Hi Sara-- I like the Juvederm products for this area. They are soft and appear natural. Unlike Radiesse, they can be dissolved if you don't like the result or have a complication. 1-2 syringes would certainly suffice. Best, Dr. Groff

Radiesse (2 syringes @ $650 each) or Artefill (3syringes @ $1000 each) do great for nasolabial grooves. Radiesse lasts about a yr and artefill about 4-5 yrs. Sincerely, David Hansen,MD

I have use extensively Radiesse in the NLF with great results. As far as Voluma (made by Allergan, same family than Juvederm), I  have used it in the NLF for the last 2 years. Even though it is difficult to make a decision based on pictures, I would think that both could work great for you. Radiesse: last about a year and you may need 1 to 1 1/2 syringe Voluma: last about 2 years and you may need 2 syringes. More expensive to start with but last longer. Hope it helps! 

I would recommend Radiesse, 1-2 vials. Sign up for 1 vial and wait several weeks before you purchase another vial, as you may like the cosmetic outcome with 1 vial alone. 

We are so lucky to live in a time where there are so many good fillers to treat this area of the face.  I remember way back when when some surgeons were excising the nasolabial fold area because there were no good alternatives.  Crazy, huh?The list of fillers is long and I would seek care with a doctor who has a lot of experience with several.  I really like the HA fillers such as Juvederm, Restylane and Voluma and I really, really love fat.  The choice will depend on your budget, your available down time and your tolerance for repeat treatments.Once word of advice - go for as full of correction as possible.  Patients who settle for partial correction are never as pleased as those who save up their $$ and go for the full correction.  See my blog for fillers that I do not recommend. 

There are a lot of fillers to be used in this area.  I prefer Perlane/Juvederm Ultra Plus or Voluma.  Radiesse can also be used.  I would think 2 syringes may be enough initially, knowing that you can add more in future if you wish!

This is a great question because there are a lot of people
who wonder the same thing. There are
short term medium term and long term fillers.
For the nasolabial folds almost all of them will work. My patients all prefer the value of the long
term fillers. Artefill is an amazing
filler that lasts at least 5 years and therefore the value is tremendous. The safety profile is excellent and the
