Hi.. hope someone who can answer my question when I can use the scar guard? I’m currently 10 Days done with my Mommy makeover. Nurse told me no need to put it first but my surgeon advice that can put already since the day I left hospital. So when the nurse 1st visited me she asked me to peal off the scar guard to my breast and tummy

Best to use any scar creams after the incisions are completely closed, I usually tell my patients they can use creams after 6 weeks, continue to follow up with your PS.

Surgeons may have different opinions on this, for my patients,I do not want them to start using silicone on their scars until they are completely healed. Good luck.

I recommend silicone scar care products for all of our patients who undergo a mommy makeover.  Application of the product daily begins at 4-5 weeks post-op. Silicone products are available in gel form, solid stick (such as Prosil), and as strips (embrace).  All are effective in post-operative scar care.  The silicone strips have the advantage of adding a bit of pressure, and I find them more effective for treating raised (hypertrophic) scars. The strips are a bit more work as they have to be applied and kept in place. For our patients who appear to be forming raised scars, I most frequently recommend using the gel or solid stick during the day and the strips at night.Best regards,Andrew Lyos, MD, FACS

It's best to hold off on products such as this until all incisions are healed and closed completely. I would recommend following up with your surgeon regarding their own recommendations because different practices tend to have their own protocols for post op care. I think the best time to start this kind of treatment is when the incision is fully closed. This can be anywhere from about a week, or even up to a few weeks. The answer to this is best determined by your plastic surgeon who can give you precise instructions so you get the very best appearing scar.

I typically have my patients start with scar creams at two weeks after surgery when their bandages have been removed.  This is a doctor specific request however and I would call yours to confirm what works best for your particular case.  Best wishes on a smooth recovery.

With any scar creams, you would want to apply it when your incisions are completely closed.  If you have any questions or concerns about the Scar guard, you should contact your plastic surgeon.

Different types of treatments can be used at different times.  I recommend speaking with your surgeon on when you can begin to use your Scarguard.  Generally this type of topical treatment can be used once the incisions are completely closed.
