I underwent a breast lift with implants in October 2020. Since then, I have had this ongoing insecurity and concern regarding leftover areolar tissue on both breasts. The left side where the tissue extends over a larger area beneath the primary areola is the one that bothers me the most. What doesn’t help is the fact the my primary areola are already larger than I would prefer. I would like to know whether it would be possible to have this excess tissue removed using local anesthesia.

Residual or widened areolar tissue can sometimes occur after breast lift or implant surgery, particularly as tissues settle and scars mature. In many cases, excess areolar tissue or irregular edges can be improved with a minor revision procedure.

Depending on the amount of tissue involved and scar pattern, this type of correction can often be performed under local anesthesia, sometimes with light sedation. The procedure typically involves carefully excising the excess pigmented tissue and refining the areolar shape while working within existing scars whenever possible.

However, it’s important to consider that any revision around the areola may slightly alter scar appearance and must be planned carefully to preserve blood supply and symmetry.

An in-person evaluation with a board-certified plastic surgeon is the best way to determine whether a small local revision would safely achieve the improvement you’re seeking.
