In any formal tummy tuck, there will always be a scar, but the scar can be placed deeper and closer to the abdominal wall.
Is there a specific technique you are referring to? An excellent tummy tuck should always be done with a scar which is well concealed in the depths of the bellybuttonBest of luck!Dr. SubbioBoard-Certified Plastic SurgeonNewtown Square/Philadelphia, PA
Every surgeon has their own way of creating the opening for the umbilicus during a tummy tuck surgery. Every surgeon also believes that their technique is "special". What really matters is how the results are. Therefore, it is best to evaluate the before and after photos and pay special attention to the height of the incision and the belly button contour. But yes, there are ways to hide the incision so when the belly button heals, all the incision are pulled inwards and the belly button does not look like a stamp on.Hope that helps. Thank you for your question. The belly button shape, with scars inside the belly button will enhance the natural look after an abdominoplasty. A well done abdominoplasty with a poor or scarred belly button broadcasts to the world (at least on the beach) that you had a tummy tuck. This is true of the location of the belly button as well. A youthful looking abdomen has the belly button at a higher position than an "aged" abdomen. Every surgeon has his/her way of creating the belly button to try to make it look natural, but not all succeed. Why? the belly button is the last surgical step in an abdominoplasty and it seems that not a lot of detail is devoted to it.At times, if the original belly button is scarred or seems too low, I actually remove it and reconstruct one later. This also has the advantage of not placing extra tension on the lower abdominal skin between the belly button and the pubic incision, thus leading to no incision breakdown. The reconstructed BB looks natural, it's an inny and no sutures or visible scars.See a board certified plastic surgeon with experience in advanced body sculpting techniques for an in person consultation/evaluation.
Hello and thank you for your question. Thebest advice you can receive is from an in-person consultation. Depending on your pre-operative anatomy, the belly button can be designed to be an innie, with the scars towards the inside. The goal is to have a natural appearance of the belly button, so that it does not appear surgery was performed. Make sure you specifically lookat before and after pictures of real patients who have had this surgeryperformed by your surgeon and evaluate their results. The mostimportant aspect is to find a surgeon you are comfortable with. I recommendthat you seek consultation with a qualified board-certified plastic surgeon whocan evaluate you in person.Best wishes and good luck.Richard G. Reish, M.D.Harvard-trained plastic surgeon
can you be a little more precise? can you give some sort of reference as to what you are talking about. most surgeons think that their technique is the best or they would not do it. generally has to do with keeping the incision small and keeping the naval close to the abdominal wall. thanks
happen either with floats or reconstructions where the scar is 'hidden' within the belly button. There are some other tricks with the belly button but this is the most predictable.
The final result of the belly button after tummy tuck is a source of much debate in terms of technique. Part of the result is determined by how thick your fat layer is in the part of the upper abdomen that is stretched to close the tummy tuck. If it is slightly thicker, this may be longer than the stalk of the belly button, which means the belly button will pull inward into more of a funnel with the scar edge lying in some shadow, which makes it more inconspicuous. Additionally, a thinner, shield-shaped or oval belly button looks more youthful than a very wide and round one. For most patients, the scar will heal to be barely perceptible but occasionally a patient develops a hypertrophic (thick) or keloid (abnormal) scar which makes it more noticeable. You should look at before and after results in your consultations with board certified plastic surgeons to get an idea of their typical belly button results to help you with your decision.
There are several ways to handle the belly button, depending on the type of tummy tuck being done. In general "floating" the belly button does not leave a visible scar and this often done with mini tummy tuck. With full tummy tuck, there really is not a way to avoid placing a scar around the belly button. Often, this scar can set deeper in the belly button to make it less visible. As a side note, some surgeons do claim to have proprietary or innovative techniques, but this often more about marketing than it is about a different or new technique.
Thank you for your question. There is no correct answer for this question and the decision is ultimately between you, your gynecologist and your plastic surgeon. In addition, the decision will depend on how smoothly your initial procedure went, were there complications, etc...In...
Most surgeons would recommend that you wait at least 6 weeks before lifting greater than 10 lbs or so.
It is impossible to remove excess skin without some incision. That being said you can have a limited/mini tummy tuck through an incision similar to a c-section. If you do not want an incision about your belly button this can also be done but all of the laxity in the skin and muscle may not be...
