13 days post. How many lymphatic massage are necessary after a BBL?

Question

I’m 13 days post op and recieve 6 massage my first week and I haven’t gotten anymore I feel pretty good and they kept telling me while I got my massage I felt really good no lumps or anything. Do I have to continued reviving massage or am I okay with the 6 I got? How many massage do most doctors suggest. I got lazy and stop getting massage but I don’t want it to to affect me.

Massages are recommended for the fat donor sites and are done to help relieve and reduce pain. We recommend 8-10 treatments for the body.

Most surgeons find that manual massage (lymphatic drainage), application of Ultra Sound massage as well as vacuum assisted massage after liposuction improve recovery in particular when it comes to postoperative lumpiness. Fat tissue "injured" with liposuction and surgery has  tendency to create lumps due to scarring. These lumps are mostly visible and palpable several weeks after liposuction and may last 6 months and longer. Lipomassage, US massage and compression garment will all help to improve this unwanted condition. We recommend at least 10 treatments starting first week after surgery. We also recommend patients to buy their own Ultra Sound massage kit ($40-$50 on internet) and use it for months treating areas of residual lumpiness. Patient's understanding of goals and potential problems and full participation in  post-operative  treatment is crucial for good result after liposuction and any other surgery. Good luck.

Lymphatic massage is OK, but I do not think it is mandatory. Recommend that you follow your plastic surgeon's post-operative guidelines.

Different recovery protocols are present for different patients. On average patients may not require any form of lymphatic massage; if they do, they usually require 5-15 treatments as early as 2 weeks and as late as 6-8 weeks; meaning your recovery depends on the amount of fat removed from liposuction, the areas liposuctioned, and the amount of fat transferred to your buttocks.

I suggest my patients to get 10 sessions of lymphatic massages, to get the best results. But if you are feeling well and you are not swelling, you should be ok with six.

The Best answer to that is ZERO!   Lymphatic Massage does nothing except help make your swelling go away quicker.   You do not need to get any at all.   Lymphatic massage will not change your results in anyway.   Good results are a result of good surgery.  Deep, Aggressive Massage can help with correction of lumps, if needed.   Lymphatic Massage does nothing to improve your results.  It just makes you feel better by minimizing your swelling.

Following the recommendations of your surgeon is very important. The recovery takes around 4 to 6 weeks, you must perform 10 lymphatic drainage massages, for me more, and you can continue your normal activities, perform light exercises, then increase the routine without any problem.

Hi and Thanks for the question.  In general, lymphatic massage is very helpful after any liposuction procedure.  That being said, there is no set number of massages that is optimal.  For my own patients, I recommend that they perform the massage on their own every day to help reduce swelling and ensure a smooth result.  Best of Luck!
