Rhinoplasty: is bulbous tip and nostril reduction enough without altering the bridge? (Photos)

Question

Hello, I am planning to have a rhinoplasty, but I don’t want the bridge or the bony part of my nose to be touched. I am only interested in a bulbous tip reduction and nostril reduction. Will this be enough to achieve a balanced look? Thank you for your advice.

In order to give you this idea, we need to see your nose from the side. If there is a big hump on the tip of your nose, it may be better to reduce this hump to give your face the proper look it deserves. Otherwise, if you are happy with the hump of your nose, of course you can only have nose surgery. Important thing is which points you like or dislike on your nose.

The best way to determine somebody's bridge projection would be with a profile photograph. On front of you, I agree that you have a pleasing nasal bridge appearance and a white nasal tip appearance. Please consider re-asking your question with profile photographs. Thank you. Sincerely, Dr. Joseph

It would be very difficult to suggest much based on these photos. Your tip definitely needs refinement but what exactly should be done with your nose can be decided only on the basis of in person consultation. In many cases 3D imaging, now available in many plastic surgery practices with high volume of nose surgery, can  help to determine what would be the best set of procedures to refine your nose. If you do not want the bridge altered then that can be arranged.  The tip is quite wide and boxy.  You would benefit from a tip rhinoplasty.

The photos indicate that your skin isn't too thick, so we can see the outlines of the strong tip cartilages that are making the tip of the nose look wide-ish. So it should be possible to design an operation that only addresses that area of concern. Since revision rhinoplasty is so difficult, however, you should spend the effort to look at good photos of your nose from other views than these frontals, to make certain that there's nothing else to address. In any rhinoplasty, we should be addressing *everything* that's on a patient's list, so we're not tempted to go back later and do more!

Hello and thank you for your question. Based on your photographs, you are a good candidate for a Rhinoplasty for tip refinement and nostril reduction. In order to fully evaluate your nose however, additional photos would be helpful, including a side profile view. With good surgical technique, you could have an outstanding result. I recommend that you seek consultation with a qualified board-certified rhinoplasty surgeon who can evaluate you in person.

The nose is anatomically a very dynamic and intertwined structure. Although it's possible to obtain improvement on the shape of the nose with tip shaping maneuvers, a rhinoplasty without adressing the bridge and nasal bones is incomplete (leave out very few selected cases). A nose should be harmonious within itself and with the rest of the face. Therefore when we want to improve the aesthetic of the nose a more wholeistic approach should be employed. From personal experience: most of patients who specifically want one part of the nose corrected, and the rest not being touched end up dissappointed with mediocre results in the end.

A full set of facial photographs all angles are required to make a determination about being a candidate for a tip plasty only. If you have any hump whatsoever, you must undergo a full rhinoplasty to ensure the nose is totally balanced in the three-dimensional fashion, otherwise it'll look unbalanced.
