It's very unusual for MiraDry not to work at all. You should see your treating physician and have an iodine-starch test to see if it's your underarm which is sweating and where. If it's the underarm, the consider a third treatment. If you're sweating elsewhere, then there might be some medications you can take to reduce sweating. Perhaps Botox can help.Best wishes, Dr. ALDO
I'm sorry to hear that you are still experiencing hyperhidrosis after having done miraDry twice. It is more likely that it was done incorrectly, or not enough energy was used. I would recommend you have a starch/iodine test to see how many active sweat glands are remaining, and then determine whether or not you'll need a 3rd treatment. Best of luck to you!
We have not had this experience. We have not had to retreat after a level 5 treatment but always offer this as a second treatmetn if needed.
It is very unusual to still be sweating profusely after two miraDry treatments. Very rare patients have sweat glands which are too superficial or too deep that miraDry doesn't help. I would recommend a starch iodine test first to see if the sweating is diffuse or patchy. If it is patchy, it means the miraDry has helped and you may consider another treatment on Level 5. If it is diffuse, you may want to consider Botox.
It is very unusual to not have great results if MiraDry is performed at those settings on two occasions. Next step is to do a starch iodine test, then try one more time using tumescent technique at the max level. Good luck!
otto81,It is extremely unusual to have axillary sweating persist without change after 2 miradry treatments, especially if treated at level 5. My suspicion is the axillary sweating has been reduced and you may be noticing the sweat coming from the sweat glands just outside the treated area. I would strongly suggest an iodine-starch test to determine exactly where the sweating is originating.Be WellDr G
I have not had a patient require more than 2 treatments of MiraDry for underarm sweating. In clinical studies, MiraDry has been shown to permanently reduce sweating by 82%, and I have had excellent results treating my patients with MiraDry for underarm sweating. One important fact is that MiraDry reduces sweat by 82% which means that there will still be a small amount of sweating after the treatment. I would recommend doing the starch iodine test to confirm you are still experiencing significant sweating. If you do still have significant sweating under the arms, consider a third MiraDry treatment; perhaps with a different doctor. You can also look into other treatments for excessive underarm sweating but these other treatments have their own problems. Botox injections are effective but not permanent and you will need repeat, expensive treatments typically twice a year. There are also oral medications for sweating but these have side effects. There are also neurosurgery techniques to reduce sweat but surgery can also have significant side effects including rebound sweating. In summary, I would consider a repeat, 3rd treatment with MiraDry if the iodine starch test still shows significant sweating.
There are some patients that require a 3rd treatment even after being treated on level 5 twice before. In my experience, I have seen patients that have failed treatment due to the fact that the area treated was not sufficiently wide enough or did not cover the entire axilla. Upon using a gride that actually covers the enitre axillary region that is sweating, the procedure is subsequently successful.Perhaps try a different Miradry center.
Starch iodine would be a waste of time.10% of my patients need a second procedure on Level 5.I treat all of my patients on Level 5 and with each treatment, I go over the entire treatment area TWICE.Since May 2011, I have only done 4 or 5 patients 3 times.Your options are repeat Botox injections every three months or another session of miraDry.H Karamanoukian MD FACSCenter for Excessive Sweting, est 1999
I would advise you to get a starch-iodine test to see how much you are sweating from the treated areas. It is unusual that you would continue to sweat excessively after 2 miraDry treatments. I have noticed that in humid environments there can be perceived sweating from the treated armpits but in reality, the sweating is due to the surrounding untreated areas. In our practice, we have treated over 125 patients and majority of them have stated that miraDry was greater than 80% effective with only 1 treatment.
At this time it is not indicated for these areas. Hopefully an applicator will come out soon, but for now your best option may be Botox. Good luck!
MiraDry has been FDA cleared to treat sweating in the armpit area. There are studies with a different handpiece to assess treatment of sweating in other areas of the body but this has not come out yet. For now, Botox injections can be tried to help sweating in groin area.
It reduces sweating in the underarm area by 82% with one treatment. You can experience bruising and swelling. After this resolves the dryness your experiencing can be treated with a moisturizing lotion like aquaphor.
