Why do I have pointy breasts after implants? (photo)

Why do I have pointy breast? Well, you just had surgery four days ago and that is the most common reason why you have pointy breast! Breast implants will rapidly expand and push your breasts forward and the swelling makes it worse. Fortunately for you, the vast majority of the excessive projection in the nipple area will dissipate and in a few days the rest of your breast tissues will catch up. This will likely result in a very round and beautiful breast in a matter of a few weeks! However, at four days from your surgery You should most likely spend time following your doctor’s instructions and not to fall into the trap of prematurely judging the final result of the operation! You are still very early on in the healing process and are experiencing swelling of breasts and nipples.A lot of this is due to swelling which can
cause the ducts to be swollen shut causing a back up in the system if you will.
It takes time for everything to go back to normal and the nipples should settle
around 3 months

You are very early post-op.  Patience is key.  Your breasts will change a lot over the next 6 weeks to 3 months.  This can be quite normal after your surgery.Best,

I have really started to appreciate lately that the areola projects out for a while after breast augmentation and this contributes to the pointy or cone like appearance most likely due to the ducts being blocked. I now tell people about this. It almost always settles with time. Hang in!

Thank you for your question. Keep in mind that you are only 4 days post op and swelling usually lasts 6 weeks to 3 months. Typically the final result of Breast Augmentation surgery may take 6 months to 1 year. Your post op pictures look good.Best,Dr. Rodgers

Based on your picture, I am assuming that you had more than a breast augmentation.  It looks like you had some kind of crescent or peri-areolar breast lift to elevate your nipple/areola on each side.  Also, I am assuming that your breast implants were placed under your chest muscle.  After breast implant surgery when the implants are below the chest muscle, the muscle will contract upwards, making you look fuller in the upper portion of your breasts.  It takes awhile for the muscle to relax and allow the implants to settle.  Since you are only four days post-op, you also have some swelling.  I tell my patients that I don't really look for my final results after a breast lift or breast augmentation under the muscle for three months.  It just takes that long for the muscle to stretch and relax, the tissues to settle, the swelling to go away, and for you to get used to the changes in your breasts.  Although you said you are not happy with your results at the present time, my advice is to wait for three months to pass before you decide whether or not to do something further.

Thank you for your question. It seems many patients on this site have the same question. Your breasts appear appropriate for where you are in the healing process. If you wait of the implants to settle and for the skin and muscle to round-out around the implants, you can expect to have a very nice result. This may take up to a year. 

The implants are pushing the breast gland into the areola.  This is common.  Over the next six months the breast tissue will attenuate over the implant and the results will be softer.It appears from the photos that you have a nice result.I hope this helps. 

Your concerns are not uncommon. I would urge you, however, to be patient. Implants change dramatically in the months following surgery and almost always that progression is towards a more natural, desireable result.Best,Dr. Pyle
