Is a Epsom Salt bath ok for 2 days post breast augmentation surgery?

I had a breast augmentation surgery 48 hours ago. I have a pain pump, but still quite a bit of pain and swelling. I have heard that an epsom bath could help. Is this OK to do?

I have my patients stay in their post operative garment until there follow up appointment and than they can start showering and no baths for a month

I wouldn't allow it for my patients BUT you need to ask your PS.  They are the only person that can advise you about this as they did the surgery.Best,

Thank you for your question.  It is always best to check with your surgeon to get their specific approval for post operative care and activities.  Each surgeon can be different and it's always best to discuss your activities with your surgeon, who knows you best.  In general, most surgeons do not like patients soaking in bath tubs after surgery.

It's normal to have pain and swelling especially since you are only 48 hours post op. In my post op instructions I do not let my patients take a bath for 4-6 weeks.  Showers are okay after the first post-op visit, and only after I have given the go ahead. One reason for not taking a bath is the risk of infection if bacteria from the bath water gets into the incision. Call you PS or PA and follow their instructions. Best wishes,Dr. Rodgers
