I want a BBL but I have a hard time swallowing pills/pain meds, are there any alternatives to pills?

Yes there are other options instead of just pills.I would recommend that you see a board-certified plastic surgeon in your area that is a member of both ASPS & ASAPS and performs a lot of body lifts. Rest assured there are several options for people that cannot take pills. There are liquid forms of narcotic pain medication that your surgeon can prescribe. This would likely be the most easily consumed if you cannot take a pill. Otherwise crushing up pills into smaller pieces and taking them with liquid or soft food (applesauce, yogurt, etc).

Generally speaking a BBL patient’s pain they experience is from the liposuction portion of the procedure. We do always prescribe oral medications for pain control, antibiotics, and an anti-nausea medication that dissolves under the tongue. I have heard of some liquid forms of pain medication, but that would be up to the prescribing / treating physician whether he would recommend prescribing that for you or not. Hi.  You are not alone in not being able to take pills. Sometimes a small bit of applesauce or another semisolid helps to get it down. If you can't do that, there are liquid forms of pain medicine that are used for children, elderly pts with swallowing restrictions and post bariatric surgeries (such as Tylenol with codeine).  Your surgeon can reach out to your pharmacist to make sure they have it in stock as there are many frequent shortages and discontinuations on medications.  If you get this filled prior to day of surgery, perhaps they will give it to you instead of a pill right before they begin. IV Tylenol and IV Ibuprofen are other options for the day of surgery.  Best wishes, Dr. Doolabh

Since you have difficulty swallowing pills, there are some pain medications that come in a liquid form.  Discuss this with your board certified plastic surgeon who will suggest which liquid pain medications will be best for you.

Hi - thank you for your question. You should be able to get a very effective pain medication in liquid form. If your surgeon isn't familiar with these options, ask him or her to reach out to their anesthesiologist. 

Every Doctor has their own protocol for after care. This should be discussed directly with your Surgeon. 

If your doctor won't prescribe liquid forms of your medication you may need to crush them and mix with juice. I understand your situation as I myself can not swallow pills. Although the taste is not very good, crushing the pills and mixing with food or liquid is ok to do. Discuss this in more detail with your surgeon.Best wishes,Dr.Bruno
